Neuroscience research has demonstrated that conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADD , and more have brain signatures that can be seen with brain mapping procedures.
I believe that therapy can be a rewarding and life-changing experience. I became a therapist to help people lead happier, more productive lives. Clients need a sense of connection and trust, but also need someone who will gently challenge long-standing beliefs and patterns in a way that leads to positive change. I have been a therapist in the Davis community for 20 years, and have extensive training in Biofeedback, Neurofeedback, Coherence therapy, and Long term psychodynamic psychotherapy.

As an experienced therapist who specializes in anxiety, PTSD/trauma, ADHD , and Autism, I believe that everyone can heal and reclaim control over their lives.
Is the stress of your life overwhelming you? Or has a past experience left you stuck and unable to move forward? You're likely fed up with how anxiety or trauma have crippled your ability to function in everyday life, isolating you from others, and leaving you feeling trapped or hopeless. You might not even remember a time you didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to feel confident again. You’re ready to experience a sense of ease. Most of all, you’re ready to reclaim a sense of control over your life.

I also provide neurodiversity-affirming assessments for autism and ADHD .
You may be at the top of your game, but you feel stuck. Misunderstood. Something just isn't quite right. This may be affecting relationships, your work, or your ability to meet a goal you set. Things "should" be easy. They seem easy to other people. Why not you? I work with neurodivergent teens and adults who are discovering that their brains work differently. Moving into a space of self-compassion and understanding allows for a re-imagining of how to meet goals, connect and foster relationships, and excel at work.

Hi! I'm Rebeks (they/them) - a transmasculine nonbinary therapist who specializes in trauma, LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy, and life with chronic illness, disability, college/academia, and affirmative approaches to neurodiversity such as Autism, ADHD , and OCD. I love working with folx in the "gray spaces" of identity who aren't quite sure they are (fill in the blank) enough. My approach to therapy is to provide solidity and a sense of containment to enable the deeper healing-work — especially for those with complex trauma, dissociation and early attachment ruptures.

As a fat, queer, neurodivergent disruptor of societal norms and systems, I hold a strength-based attachment focused framework that values and celebrates all genders, sexualities, bodies, ethnicities, cultures, abilities, family structures, religions, and socio-economic locations. I see these intersectionalities as a beautiful tapestry of personal empowerments which can become the foundation from which we work collectively to identify, address and dismantle systems of oppression. I believe humans shouldn’t be pathologized in a society designed to keep people sick and stuck.

My psychotherapy practice is built around helping people create significant changes in the way they are able to live their lives. Those who have been challenged by the experience of becoming parents of a difficult child, those who have had their lives disrupted by trauma, those struggling with food issues, and those who desire to deepen their understanding of themselves are among the people who will find a welcoming space in my office to slow down and reflect. I believe that living a mindful and aware life is a true blessing.

As James Baldwin famously said, "not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed unless faced", I also offer you the following poem: "When we feel safe, anything is possible. We become unstoppable. Because we have a firm ground to launch and a safe ground to land. We can then stand. Voice ourselves, show ourselves. Life becomes a dance."

YOU DON'T NEED MORE TALK - YOU NEED RELIEF. We don't do journaling out loud. Some forms of therapy can be the equivalent to what we call "journaling out loud" where each session is comprised of whatever you feel like sharing about from your week or your past. While this type of process is important to the counseling process and does occur in some amount each week, this isn't the work of therapy that facilitates healing. In our view, you will feel temporary relief from doing this in the same way that you do when journaling or talking to a friend. In counseling jargon we call this "catharsis."

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
