I will help you create a calm and safe space so you explore your relationships with yourself and others. This safety will help you open up more vulnerable experiences which I can help you process and have a greater insight and relief from your emotional pain. Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) and EMDR and EMDR M (Modified, Laurel Parnell’s training) attachment trauma therapy help you process stuck patterns either from trauma or "negative cycles" with loved ones or with your inner self. These cycles repeat endlessly and can be very distressing. I work extensively with shame and the inner critic to help you settle and open up more

My expertise includes struggles with relationships, early childhood trauma , life transitions, gender exploration/affirmation, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression.
Starting therapy can often bring up many feelings; and taking those first steps to find a good fit between you and your therapist is an important part of the process. We will work together to create a relationship that feels safe enough to address your concerns. In addition to my private psychotherapy practice I have provided trauma informed therapy to individuals and families in various community based, non-profit agencies, in addition to Clinical Supervision.

Does your son or daughter seem unhappy, worried or frightened? Do they frequently get into trouble at school? Has there been a shift in their behavior that concerns you? Do they have difficulty making or maintaining friendships? Do they act mean, have angry outbursts or act aggressively because they cannot control their actions? Are they restless or have difficulty concentrating? These are just some of the problems I assist children, adolescents and their families in overcoming. Call me and we can talk further. I also work with adults with anxiety, parenting challenges, or who have struggled with trauma .

Talk therapy hasn't quite been the answer, and you're open to new approaches that acknowledge that trauma is stored in the body and is best resolved through body-informed psychotherapy.
Most people think you're doing well in life. They can't see how your past has left you feeling not good enough, full of self-doubt. You take responsibility for everything. You do a lot (and are great at some things), but your self-confidence can crumble instantaneously. You are stressed and anxious one minute, ashamed and depressed the next. You're no stranger to panic attacks, irritability, feeling blah, concentration troubles, or feeling numb. Your body is paying the price as well, with chronic tension, insomnia, high blood pressure, or unexplained physical symptoms. Living this way is exhausting!

Is something in your life not quite working the way you would like? Are you feeling stuck? It can often be helpful to talk though some of the issues we are struggling with in a therapeutic relationship that feels understanding, safe, and compassionate. Human beings aren't meant to "go it alone". In fact, feeling alone is inherently traumatizing itself. I have been licensed for over 20 years, working with individuals, couples, and families to heal their relationships, and to overcome trauma , depression, and addictions.

My psychotherapy practice is built around helping people create significant changes in the way they are able to live their lives. Those who have been challenged by the experience of becoming parents of a difficult child, those who have had their lives disrupted by trauma , those struggling with food issues, and those who desire to deepen their understanding of themselves are among the people who will find a welcoming space in my office to slow down and reflect. I believe that living a mindful and aware life is a true blessing.

There are many paths to healing and change. The journey is an active one and there is success in simply taking the first step, acknowledging a change is needed. I have worked in mental health services since 1988 and have worked with many different people and issues. I believe that developing awareness, of emotions, thoughts and behavior, is the starting place and that understanding where we come from, what got us here can be helpful, but changing how we feel today is the best way to have a sense of power. I specialize in somatic, or a body based approach to treatment of trauma . Please call or email me for a therapy session today.

Whether you have experienced trauma , struggle with anxiety, depression, abuse, emotional neglect, or challenges surrounding sport performance, my goal is to provide an environment of encouragement, compassion and understanding to help each of my clients attain the growth and changes they want to achieve.
Brainspoting and EMDR • I wholeheartedly believe, "when needing compassion, we need someone who is deeply rooted, is able to bend and, most of all, embraces us for our strengths and struggles," Brene Brown. I work with a wide scope of clients who have experienced abuse, sexual violence and assault, challenges with sports performance/blocks and injury, academic or performance anxiety and depression. Additionally, I have a passion for supporting emergency responders and spouses because I'm also a spouse of an emergency responder. Our home lives are different because the nature of the job is different.

As a trained Nature-Based Clinical Therapist, I am passionate about using a nature inspired modality by weaving together mindfulness, movement, eco-psychology, eco-therapy, horticulture therapy, play, creativity, spirituality, trauma informed care, narrative therapy, family systems theory, anti-oppression and anti-racism practice, and ancestral healing.
Our lives here on earth are a creative experience! At times, we need a place to rest and tend to our inner world. I view the therapeutic process as a brave space to access parts of ourselves that we want to grow and transform. My goal in working with you is to provide a supportive environment that will cultivate an increased awareness of your needs, self-compassion and understanding of who you are becoming.

Frustrated? Unhappy? Want some insight and change? I offer an encouraging approach to help you explore your world in a therapeutic environment. I believe that everyone is the expert of their own experience; you have lived your life longer than I have known you. I often use the metaphor of being a flashlight in a dark cave, shedding light on different things, however, you, as the client are in the driver's seat; I am in the passenger seat, as a co-driver. Together, we will explore your personal meanings and experiences while making larger connections to your goals. I invite you to our journey together in creating new meaning.

You know there's more to life than the loneliness, frustration, and fatigue you somehow keep coming back to. Despite the many times you've mustered the strength to push through and keep trying, sometimes you feel like true lasting change is hopeless. But something in you keeps calling, drawing you forward in search of the ease, passion, inspiration, and freedom you're longing for.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
