Are you or your child/
teen
or marriage feeling strained or overwhelmed? I have over 20 years of experience working with individuals and families struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral and relationship issues, including family blending and coparenting. It is possible to achieve symptom relief, behavior change and to promote passion, meaning, and successful relationships. Areas I focus on include children/teens, trauma, special needs or illness, parenting, and divorce (supporting parents and/or children). I am passionate to help clients witness and live their preferred selves and relationships.

Are you suffering from anxiety, depression or the aftermath of trauma? Do you struggle with painful patterns in your life that persist despite your best efforts toward change? Are you nervous to try therapy because of the expense and exposure? Have strong effort and promising insights in previous therapy failed to bring you relief? Are you struggling with a difficult child or
teenager
and feeling like your good intentions and best efforts are not reaching them? Traditional, insight-oriented therapy may help with such challenges--but if not, behavioral therapy may help, regardless of success with mental insight and understanding.

In addition to my work with substance abuse, I also enjoy working with couples and families with
adolescent
and adult children.
Are you unable to reach your goals? Do you feel there are some obstacles in the way of your success? I have been in private practice for 20 years helping people to understand and overcome issues resulting from family of origin issues, life's traumas and repetitive thinking patterns that interfere with their goals. I have experience working with individuals, couples and families from many cultures, religions and alternative lifestyles. Not all therapists can work with all people, call or e-mail me today to evaluate if we are a good fit.

I work with adolescents and young adults. I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults who are having a particularly difficult time with major life transitions. I also work with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, difficulties with relationships and individuals who are struggling with a particularly difficult period or event in their lives. Regardless of what I am helping with, my treatment begins and ends with the therapeutic relationship. My first priority in treatment is creating a safe, warm and caring environment for my client from which all other work is built on.

Life can be challenging at times. However, I believe that people have an amazing ability to heal and transform negative patterns that are no longer serving them, as well as develop more meaningful ways to approach life's hurdles. We can often get stuck during difficult moments, and outside support can be helpful during these times. As my client, I will support and encourage you to identify the solutions that are best for your life. I understand that deciding to reach out for help can be intimidating. My treatment approach will respect and honor your individual process.

Starting therapy can often bring up many feelings; and taking those first steps to find a good fit between you and your therapist is an important part of the process. We will work together to create a relationship that feels safe enough to address your concerns. In addition to my private psychotherapy practice I have provided trauma informed therapy to individuals and families in various community based, non-profit agencies, in addition to Clinical Supervision.

A favorite quote of mine is, "The truth always happens." Too often, our present truth is filled with suffering and anxiety. But we can shape our truth, to better cope with disorder or overcome pain and trauma. The therapeutic process provides insight into behaviors and actions that allows for growth in self and relationships. I specialize in working with children, adolescents and adults of all backgrounds, helping clients and families to understand a range of behaviors and disorders. Working together, clients learn to recognize feelings, relate them to behaviors, and develop tools to recreate their own truth.

I believe that you are intrinsically worthy of love and belonging but I know that often we are made to believe that being ourselves is not good enough. Self-love and acceptance can begin within this space; a place where all feel welcomed and relaxed, free from cultural and societal expectations. I'm glad you're here.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
