By looking at a caterpillar, nothing in it tells us that it's going to be a butterfly. Sometimes it's also hard to imagine that our life transforming is possible, though it actually can happen. Just like the transformation of a caterpillar can occur, with patience and perseverance, in a safe and warm cocoon, our life transformation can also begin in a safe, supportive and psychotherapeutic relationship. Life is tough! Suffering and pain seem inevitable! Yet with your willingness as well as my passion and professional training, we can work together to make each setback in your life to become a setup for growth and transformation.

You and your family will feel supported in learning effective ways to manage anxiety/stress, build resilience, improve health outcomes, and enhance all-around functioning.
Is your child feeling burned out? Do they often get headaches or stomachaches? Are they overwhelmed and avoiding responsibilities like chores and school? Is negative thinking like catastrophizing causing more stress? They may not remember a time when things weren't so hard and they'd like support in navigating challenging situations. You're in the right place if you're ready to dive in and learn strategies to improve anxiety, mood, sleep, and overall health. You're ready to find harmony and get back on track. Most of all, you'd like your teen to get support so they can feel more balanced and confident.

I help parents navigate through difficult times with kids and family life.
I believe counseling is about finding meaning and purpose in our lives; about experiencing a deep level of self-trust; and about healing broken relationships. I use a solution focused approach inviting you to view your problems from a different angle. We'll focus on what things you can control and how to let go of circumstances beyond your control. I invite you to identify the sources of internal dialogue that generate self-doubt, anxiety and depression. Each week you will leave with small assignments designed to increase your self-awareness and self-confidence.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
