I specialise in chronic pain and chronic health-related challenges because of a life-changing accident when I was 22.
I am a collaborator helping you get the quality of life you deserve. Together, we will work towards the changes you are hoping to make in your life. We'll look at the barriers, the "what's getting in the way" of what you'd like your daily life to be like. My belief about doing therapy with people is that you are the expert in your life. My job is to help you find a stronger connection to your preferred self, and help you untangle from the habits that get in the way of you being more comfortable in your own skin.

Perhaps you struggle with frequent worrying and feelings of restlessness, which interferes with your daily life and your quality of sleep. Maybe you also live with a chronic pain issue or condition, like chronic migraines, back pain, or something else that causes frequent discomfort. You may deal with negative, perfectionistic, or self-critical thoughts about yourself that you can't seem to shake. These feelings, thoughts and sensations can often seem unbearable, unrelenting and paralyzing. You sometimes may wonder if you are all alone in these feelings. I am here to tell you that you are not alone and there is hope.

What often keeps us in pain is the perception of separation from ourselves and others.
Are you looking to feel more connected to yourself and others? Do you feel trapped in certain areas of your life? I have been a psychotherapist for over 20 years and am passionate about this work. I work with teens, adults, and mental health professionals and can effectively address issues that keep you feeling depressed, anxious, and disconnected from yourself and others. I want to help you make the necessary changes to have the life you desire. Therapy isn't about finding out what is wrong with you, it is about building on what is RIGHT with you.

Our world today is full of challenges. Many stressors in life knock us off balance, and we feel overwhelmed, distressed, sometimes angry, sad and lonely. But you do not need to face the challenges alone. I am passionate to help people regain the balance by being more attuned to themselves - their identities, emotions, and physical needs. I work collaboratively with my clients to explore and identify ways to meet their goals, and provide tools and interventions as fitting. Most importantly, I walk alongside them in their journey to attain health and growth.

Do you work in a highly competitive industry like entertainment, tech, or healthcare? Are you exhausted by the intense pressure to perform and impress? In spite of your achievements, you may be struggling with anxiety, depression, or chronic stress. You may feel burned out or confused about your identity and self-worth. Perhaps the constant striving, a difficult relationship, or a work-related setback has tanked your motivation or damaged your self esteem. You may be battling procrastination, imposter syndrome, self-doubt, or self-sabotaging behavior - even though you're extremely capable and want to thrive. I get it and I can help.

When we focus on developing a relationship first and feeling a sense of safety, it is much easier to navigate through the discomfort. So we will start there. I invite you to try Art Therapy in a way that will assist you in recognizing your strengths and provide you with a feeling of connection. If Art Therapy is not something you are interested in, we will engage in talk therapy so you may experience feeling seen and known. I often incorporate art, play, and movement when working with children and families. A typical client of mine is looking for guidance in emotional regulation and wants greater emotional awareness.

Mental wellness and physical wellness can either help or hinder the other. Behavioral treatments significantly improve both mental and physical outcomes, but we know it's easier said than done. I take a primarily cognitive-behavioral approach, which has the strongest evidence base and research backing, to most problem areas impacting your wellness. CBT techniques effectively change your life in the here-and-now, but careful consideration of your values show us what changes to make and how. We will explore your values and goals together; I have not climbed your mountain, but as I climb mine I’m driven to help you summit yours.

Got Anxiety? What would it be like if those negative thoughts and feelings subsided and left you feeling more peaceful and calm? Move through life with greater ease and confidence. Reduce the effects of past traumatic experiences, tone down that negative self-talk, and replace those negative mind movies with more optimistic thoughts - naturally. Reduce the effects of inner conflicts that have prevented you from getting your goals - whether you are aware of them or not. Chances are you have tried other modalities and used some tools and they only worked for a short period of time. Make a long-term change by re-programming your mind.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
