I have a specialization working with couples, families and individuals; as well as substance abuse/chemical dependency and addiction treatment (porn, sex & gambling). In many cases the depressed and anxious client is self medicating in some way to alter underlying feelings of depression, anxiety and intimacy/attachment issues. I use Somatic Experiencing, a very effective treatment for trauma/PTSD symptoms, helping the body and mind regulate itself. Clients in relationships with loved ones addicted or abusing substances can benefit from therapy to learn how to take care of themselves so as to limit the toxicity of the proximity

A native to Los Angeles I get it; the constant hustle, traffic, the grind of working to pay for life not psychotherapy. I know you’ve got valid reasons for why this isn’t the best time for therapy, but I’m calling your bluff. You’re not too busy, too old, too Black, or too broken. This is “right time” because there will never be a right time to get well. This is your moment. I’m going to say you’ve slowed down just enough to feel; running errands with tears streaming down your face. Hating your spouse, your kids, but hating yourself more because you’re still hurting, still invisible, still in your trauma. My primary focus is kids

I believe what leads people to seek therapy is falling into the same, unhelpful patterns over and over again. These patterns can show up in our relationship to ourselves, to food, to substances, and to people. I approach therapy with the genuine belief that all people are worthy and capable of breaking these patterns and creating healthy relationships with themselves, with food and with others. My clients report the ability to identify and to challenge negative self-beliefs that get in their way and to create a new set of skills that enable them to build resiliency and an empowered sense of self.

You are not alone, even if it feels like you are. Whether you have lost a loved one, are going through a difficult break up, went through a traumatic experience, or trying to discover who you really are...I am here to guide you through the journey. You truly deserve to live a fulfilling and peaceful life. Your traumas should stop you! You have a reason and purpose as to why you are here on earth. Sometimes it's hard to remember that when you are stuck in your monkey mind. You are not just the mind. You are the MIND, BODY & SOUL. Don't let this be forgotten. The key is to connect with all 3 parts of yourself to truly know thyself.

Psychologically speaking, why do we do what we do? Where are we coming from . . . what are we moving toward . . . and how are we proceeding? Do our impulses, our actions or reactions, our habits, our thoughts, judgments, interpretations, or even our intentions support or lead to what we imagine to be our "happiness?"
I work with individuals, couples, and families in short- and long-term psychotherapy. Some clients prefer brief "solution-focused" therapy to help them with specific short-term issues, while others want to work more deeply toward longer-lasting growth and transformation.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
