I think parents are very important. Most parents raise their children the best way they can. Sometimes the best way your
parent
or parents raised you did not match your needs or your emotional personality. I believe each person is able to identify their needs when properly supported. My main focus when working with clients is to develop an understanding of their main strengths as well as areas that were not supported by their parents'
parenting
style. Our work together will focus on improving your overall understanding of your potentialities and will support your efforts at achieving them.

Mindful
Parenting

I treat codependency...a fancy word for over-focusing on others and under-focusing on you. Letting others determine your self-esteem is a dangerous thing to do. But when you're harmed as a kid, you learn that you don't matter. You come away from childhood with broken "antennae". You don't see unhealthy traits in others. Too much pain teaches you to ignore your feelings and live in your head. It's a trick that gets you through childhood, but it sabotages adult relationships. My passion is helping you use your voice to get what you want.

I offer a FREE Initial
Parent
Consultation to confirm that I am a good match for your family.
Is Your Teen Struggling Socially or Emotionally? Let me put any challenges your teen or family may be facing into perspective, and offer you fresh solutions you may not have previously considered. As an experienced Teen Therapist, I can assist you in finding solutions to problems at home or at school, and teach your teen the skills they need to thrive. For adolescents with a history of anxiety, depression, substance-abuse, or ADD, the coping skills they may have developed could be hindering the attainment of their life goals. I help teens & young-adults reconcile their history and temperament -- with their future aspirations.

I work with a focus on the mindbody connection through Brainspotting, Integrative Body Psychotherapy, and Mindfulness. By integrating the body, mind, and spirit in the process, my clients are able to find a connection to the origin of the problem. They are also able to find solutions. Solutions that are effective and more permanent. This by changing neuro-pathways leading to change in thought patterns, behaviors & emotions. parenting
skills, or have a child who needs extra guidance and care, I am here to help you gain the insight you need to find greater peace, compassion, and understanding in your life.

Being a
parent
is so hard. There are moments of joy, there is so much exhaustion, and there are times that honestly feel soul sucking. In these times you can feel like a hollow, empty shell going through the motions of life and parenthood. It can feel like there is a fog of stress and anxiety hanging over even the sunniest of days. It can feel so far away from what you imagined. This soul sucking feeling has a powerful message for you. Somewhere along the way you lost your connection to yourself.

I have worked with clients in English/Spanish helping adults with co-occurring disorders, at-risk youth, children, adolescents and veterans, with exposure to trauma, neglect, abuse, and parents with
parenting
issues. Working with these clients early on in my career motivated me to help those who cannot help themselves. Working as a therapist is a rewarding experience as well as a privilege to be invited into another person's life. I find that in joining clients on their journey to make changes and overcome the difficulties in their lives it enables them to discover their best self.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
