In dealing with stressors, life events, challenging relationships, and traumatic experiences we develop patterns to keep ourselves safe and sane; which often also limits us. The challenge is unlearning these narratives and trusting our innate wisdom. When we feel safe, secure and accepted for who we are we can begin the process of shedding what doesn’t work for us, while exploring our untapped potential. I believe you are the master of your story; and I hope to create a safe space where we can gain insight about your inner battles, develop skills to enhance holistic development, and realize the potential of your authentic self.

I enjoy working with both men's and women's issues as well as marriages/couples.
I enjoy working with adults and couples and view the therapeutic relationship as a significant agent of change for those seking to work on long standing issues or every day difficulties. My psychotherapeutic style combines psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral interventions, depending on the needs of the individual or couple. This combination produces an empathic relationship that motivates, encourages and inspires clients to explore needed changes and helps to develop practical approaches to create those changes. I strive to create an atmosphere of acceptance and a safe place that fosters exploration, change and growth. Please call with any questions you may have.

I think therapeutic relationships work best when there is a foundation of emotional safety. Upon this foundation many things are possible, including understanding ourselves and others with greater depth and clarity, tolerating discomfort for growth, and allowing for our natural ability to heal. There are many good reasons to come to therapy, including distress that doesn't have a good explanation (which is what anxiety and depression often are), the loss of a loved one or important relationship, the wish to thrive more, or feeling unable to address life's problems. Seeking help takes courage and hope; it's no easy task.

If anxiety is keeping you from succeeding in your career or preventing you from finding fulfilling relationships, you may feel desperate to start seeing improvement. Perhaps you have a large project you need to tackle or are tired of feeling awkward and overwhelmed while dating or with coworkers, even though you know you have so much to offer. And while you would like to get to the root of this anxiety to manage it once and for all, you also need to make changes quickly. Hypnotherapy can do just that: provide short-term symptom relief and long-term change.

When we battle consistent feelings of emotional pain all alone, a very heavy inescapable sense of hopelessness can take over. In this isolation with the world feeling so far outside of us, the idea of feeling better becomes impossible to grasp. I believe the human sense of hope is linked to our overall sense of health. With over 30 years of experience working as a medical doctor, I became overwhelmed with how many patients came to me in this state, and how closely linked emotional and physical pain really are. This is what led me to pursue a post-doctorate in psychoanalysis, so as to integrate the mind and body in my work.

If you are experiencing a specific fear or phobia or a generalized state of fear and feel alone and helpless in those moments of dread in which the fear appears to be like an solid wall. If deep inside you are convinced that your fear, weather is fear of driving, of social situations, of going out or being alone, etc. makes you a different, weak kind of person, know that your fear does not define you, neither it needs to be a life sentence. You may experience a new sense of freedom, expansion and self confidence once the fear is addressed and resolved.

Time and again, we find ourselves in troubling patterns that make our lives feel worse, not better. We get into one unsatisfying relationship after another, hesitate to express our needs or repeatedly fail to achieve our goals. We struggle with a vague sense of anxiety and depression, a pervasive general dissatisfaction or a feeling that we cannot be ourselves. We try our best to manage, but often come up short. This is the value of exploring parts of ourselves not consciously available to us.

I am influenced by my experiences as a Latina woman who has experienced childhood trauma, divorce, single motherhood, raising a neurodivergent child, remarriage, & creating a blended multicultural family, and have worked in K-12 schools.

I view therapy as a tool to create a safe space to show up authentically and work toward living the life you seek. I work with children (8 & up), teens, adults, & couples who are addressing trauma, issues of identity or self-esteem, anxiety, recovering from narcissistic, sexual, or intimate partner abuse, having difficulty with dating/relationships, & working through divorce, separation, co-parenting, & blending families. Otis, my office dog, usually joins me for sessions.

Transitioning through life can feel challenging, especially when we're not sure of our ability to handle changes with confidence. Difficulty navigating changes can negatively impact our relationship with ourselves and others. I work with adolescent, young adult, and adult clients who are struggling with ineffective patterns that impede their quality of life. In therapy, I support clients in discovering effective strategies to manage distressing emotions, cope with current stressors, gain insights, and build resilience. We work together to understand your history and the patterns you would like to shift.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
