In 30 years as a psychologist, I've actively helped individuals and couples learn tools to create confidence, change negative thinking, and create healthy relationships. My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, couples communication and work issues. One of the fundamental aspects of a quality therapy experience is the relationship between therapist and client and the space to develop insight and emotional awareness. This means creating an environment that feels safe, having room for curiosity and openness, and having a therapist that is attuned to your goals and needs. My integrative therapeutic approach is aimed at uniquely addressing each individual in order to cultivate healing and growth.

I have current availability for families, couples, and underage minors. My goal is to assist individuals struggling with trauma, PTSD, depression, racism, families of persons with mental illness and
family
/couples therapy. The challenges you face are not as important as the tools you need to navigate them. The role I choose as a therapist is to walk with you on your journey to healing, helping you discover the tools that work for you, teaching you to use them, and celebrating you in your journey. I honor the differences and diversities in us all, and do not believe in using a 'cookie-cutter' approach with my clients.

In addition to individual and
family therapy
, I offer group therapy online for teens, college students, young professionals, and parents.
Self-care! Ha! Sounds lovely in theory but it’s not happening in the real world. I work with teens, young professionals, and parents who are high achieving perfectionists - folks who are expected to get it done...and done well. On the outside, you are driven, motivated, and happy but on the inside your loud inner critic has you never feeling “good enough.” You know this inner critic - the one that compares yourself to others, is stressed all the time, terrified of failing, and afraid to disappoint others. Yet, you want to stop overthinking, overworking, and most importantly you want to stop being so mean to yourself.

My expertise is in working with relationship issues, issues due to childhood trauma,
family
, and child issues.
Have you ever felt you were having problems feeling happy with your life and maintaining satisfying relationships with those closest to you? The reason is often hidden in adverse childhood experiences and insecure attachment styles during our formative years. I work with couples and individuals to help improve intimate relationships that are at the core of maintaining one's healthy outlook at life. Even relationships that may end in separation can be resolved without acrimony and to the benefit of both parties since to better understand oneself and one's intimate relationships is the key to satisfying and productive living.

Life has changed for an uncertain period of time. Finding a safe space to really be heard, so we can process, heal and grow is helpful during this difficult time. Feeling isolated, depressed, anxious or unable to face daily challenges is normal, but finding ways to handle the stress or difficult feelings when they become overwhelming can make life easier and bring about more success and happiness in your. Sometimes it's stress within a relationship (
family
, dating, marriage, parenting) that can really throw us off our game. Sometimes work is overwhelming. Sometimes everything seems to get us down.

My work is influenced by my experience as a Latina woman in a multicultural marriage, a person who has lived through childhood trauma, who has experienced divorce and single motherhood raising a neurodivergent child, as well as remarriage and creating a blended
family
.
I am passionate about the resiliency of the human spirit in healing from trauma, creating and nurturing engaging relationships, and finding our way through life’s transitions. I view therapy as a tool to create a safe space to show up authentically and work toward living the life you seek. My work is with children (10 & up), teens, adults, & couples who are healing from trauma, working on identity, body image, and self-esteem, experiencing anxiety, depression, & stress, recovering from narcissistic, sexual, or domestic abuse, having difficulty with dating & relationships, & working through divorce, co-parenting, & blending families.

You may be seeking therapy for many reasons, and it can be overwhelming to begin the process of therapy. As your therapist, I will engage you in becoming comfortable with exploring your inner self. My work with you is aimed at increasing your awareness of processes that lead to suffering and ultimately increasing your enjoyment and satisfaction in life. We will explore what is working for you and where you get stuck, how you relate to others and yourself, and your coping mechanisms, which all affect how you're feeling on a daily basis. Learning to understand and flow with your emotions will probably be a focus in our work together.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
