I just can't seem to get it right with my wife, kids. "Is it me? Or them?" Despite your best efforts, it seems like you're always getting rejected or upsetting your loved ones. It's a battle that you shouldn't be fighting. You have the best of intentions, and know you're a good person, but something always seems to go awry. The attempt to share how you feel ends up in a blow out, spiraling out of control. Trying to understand your loved ones-fails. Peace, connection, hugs, laughs- these are the things you seek and miss the most. You're desperate to find a way to share with others in an authentic way, but that also keeps the peace.

Have you ever felt you were having problems feeling happy with your life and maintaining satisfying relationships with those closest to you? The reason is often hidden in adverse childhood experiences and insecure attachment styles during our formative years. I work with couples and individuals to help improve intimate relationships that are at the core of maintaining one's healthy outlook at life. Even relationships that may end in separation can be resolved without acrimony and to the benefit of both parties since to better understand oneself and one's intimate relationships is the key to satisfying and productive living.

The therapeutic process is unique to the client. For some it involves deep reflection and questioning old idea's, and for others a problem solving collaboration. For me it is the excitement of the journey you will embark on, and the endless possibilities for growth. Transparency is paramount, and key to the process for both client and therapist. Work is progressive and tailored to the individual. As issues emerge, treatment plans are re-assessed and revised to meet client needs. For trauma I am trained in EMDR and Functional Family Systems for addiction CBT and 12-step and for couples family systems.

You may be seeking therapy for many reasons, and it can be overwhelming to begin the process of therapy. As your therapist, I will engage you in becoming comfortable with exploring your inner self. My work with you is aimed at increasing your awareness of processes that lead to suffering and ultimately increasing your enjoyment and satisfaction in life. We will explore what is working for you and where you get stuck, how you relate to others and yourself, and your coping mechanisms, which all affect how you're feeling on a daily basis. Learning to understand and flow with your emotions will probably be a focus in our work together.

Too often it feels like we "should" do something - or feel pressured by thoughts of what others think of us. Carrying these burdens can feel like abandonment, sadness, worry, shame or being generally overwhelmed. My goal is to help you you stop this cycle, by developing a deeper understanding of your own true feelings. Together, we can build your sense of confidence so you can speak your own truth - ultimately, creating the kind of life, career and relationships you want.

Now accepting new clients. I'm glad that you've taken the first step toward creating the healthy future that you want for yourself. Situations in life can cause us to feel stressed, and seeking therapy shouldn't be one of those stressors. With some much happening in our personal lives we don't often have the chance to "make space" for ourselves, let me help you. Whether you are struggling with saying "no", comparing yourself to others, feeling emotionally drained, feeling anxious, depressed, or struggling with past traumas, and/or work-place stress, you've come to the right place. I'm ready to take this journey of healing with you.

I am a strength-based therapist that focuses on helping you identify your innate self-determination, resiliency, and strengths. It is important to me that as we discuss your struggles, negative thought patterns, behaviors and challenges, that you can also identify the strengths that have helped you through difficulties as you seek support at this time. It is so easy to get lost in self-limiting beliefs, feel stuck, and forget our worth at times.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
