Not Just Talk. I use research-based methods from the Gottman Institute, one of the only couple's therapy programs that is scientifically proven to really work. I am passionate about working with couples by evaluating their strengths and challenges, and teaching them how to begin using simple but effective tools to reduce conflict and revive feelings of love and acceptance that may have faded in the hassles of everyday life. I believe that happily ever after doesn't have to be a myth and that couples can overcome the most daunting problems, with the willingness to try and the right person to guide them.

Welcome and thanks for exploring my profile. As of July 5th, 2022 I will be doing telehealth only. I am a Cognitive Behavior Therapist that encourages you to think about what you are thinking about. Our thoughts can lead us down many paths, some we would prefer to change. Let's get together and talk about what thoughts are tripping you up and preventing you from reaching your personal goals. I work with adults, Veterans, and persons receiving Medicare. We also have one additional clinician you can choose from that works with children and families.

Let's face it, life can be hard. Sometimes, so hard we don't know what to do or where to turn. Well, I believe that's where I come in. I've been helping people claw their way back to the top for decades. It is an interesting gift I have. I don't spend our time together psychoanalyzing you. Rather, I help people find realistic solutions and skills to transcend whatever barriers are blocking them. So, take a deep breath and give me a call.

The clients I work with benefit the most when they embrace the comfort and discomfort that comes with building a therapeutic relationship . Reading all the blurbs is an excellent way to get brief insight into the character of a potential therapist, but whether or not someone will be a good fit is a difficult question with so many options. We know the relationship you build with your therapist is the largest indicator of success. With that in mind, go with your gut! Enjoy the process and embrace the change or help you seek.

Sometimes the stresses and difficulties of life can become too insurmountable to face on our own, and we need additional therapeutic input to help navigate these obstacles and build resiliency. Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulty with coping, relationship challenges or workplace stress? These are some of the issues we can address together in therapy. If you want to make positive changes in your life and see an increase in your overall health and well-being, improved mood, feel more in control of your life, experience peace, discover your full potential or gain a better understanding of yourself, therapy can help.

Another long stressful day at work, and now you’re driving home. This should be when you can finally relax, but the truth is, you’re already getting tense. You know that the moment you walk in the door, you’ll be bombarded with a long list of responsibilities. Make dinner, walk the dog, do the laundry – and no matter how much you do, it never seems like enough. You don’t know why she’s so unhappy. There was a time when your relationship was filled with warmth and understanding. Now, every interaction seems to lead to conflict. And you’re worried that if something doesn’t change soon, it may be too late to fix. You need help.

Therapy helps you craft a healthy relationship with yourself and others, and supports meaningful life choices. My clients struggle with issues such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, loneliness, relationship challenges, questions around life direction, and personal identity. Often they report feeling "stuck," frustrated in their ability to change or move forward in their lives. As a therapist, I like to work collaboratively with clients to support and strengthen what is already working and to bring insight to areas that need more attention. With compassion and kindness, my aim is to help my clients gain coping skills that foster greater well-being and help manage difficult feelings.

It's the middle of the night and you can't sleep. You keep trying to understand why you are so stuck in your life and your relationship . Your partner is asleep in the other room because you are fighting again. You've done so much to try to feel connected but it isn't working. It's so different than what you experience when you are in community, surrounded by people who are vibrant and expansive. Like that time you were at Burning Man and you felt so alive only to come home to a life that feels numb, and disconnected. No matter how many plant medicine ceremonies, books, or courses you do, you still find yourself frustrated.

I think the key component to the therapeutic relationship is transparency and communication.
I have been in the mental health field for 5 years. I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Master’s of Social work degree. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress. I have most experience treating complex traumas, anxiety, depression, self harm, suicidal ideation, anger issues, relationship issues, family conflict and stress.

It takes courage to ask for help. I honor you in your pursuit of healing and wholeness. Experience and data show that a strong therapeutic relationship is the key to success in therapy. I endeavor to provide a safe container into which each individual human being who comes for therapy is welcomed. Being met with empathy, respect, acceptance, kindness, understanding, genuineness and non-judgement opens a space where each person can explore their issues without feeling the need to censor or conform. Having another person inalienably aligned with your own deepest Self empowers your unique route to healing and so transformation.

I believe the development of a secure and collaborative relationship is the most important aspect of the work I do with clients. Working from a strengths-based and relational perspective in a trauma informed manner, I have experience working with at-risk youth, families, and adults using a multi-theoretical approach including Attachment theory, Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, Narrative therapy, Internal Family systems, Somatic techniques, and alternative therapies such as art and nature therapy. Do you long to feel greater self esteem and ease? My experience helping many people has shown me that effective and worthwhile therapy unfolds by sensitive attunement to each unique client or couple. Healing has many facets: emotional, somatic, cognitive, energetic, and relational are important elements. I work with you as your skilled guide within a healing professional therapeutic relationship . If you are seeking transpersonal (spiritually inclusive) therapy I could be a great fit for you. As a long time seeker and practitioner I know well the gifts that come from the spaces where psychology meets spirituality.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
