If you're struggling with a deteriorating relationship, parenting issues, life stress, or family disengagement I want to help you.
Life can be challenging, and sometimes we can feel inadequate in dealing with life struggles that come our way. Sometimes we feel like we've tried everything, but for some reason we still feel stuck despite our best efforts. Although there are times in our lives when we feel great, there are also times in our lives when we feel hopeless, anxious, depressed, or even lost. Sometimes, we can pinpoint why we feel this way, and other times, these feelings seem to just come upon us for no apparent reason. Both can make life incredibly difficult.

It is time to actually make those changes you have been really wanting. You know your past is holding you back, you just aren't sure what to do about it. The pain from the past, the old family issues, the failed relationships - they are dragging you down. Sure you have supportive friends, but at this point, even they aren't sure what to say. If simply talking about it was helpful, you would be on your way by now. The next step, toward actual change, is to do something - and that is where therapy can help. Let's figure out why and how you are stuck so you can make changes.

I provide therapy for a range of issues and life stressors, including family relational concerns (couples, parent/child, siblings), worries/anxiety, and faith crisis.
The act of coming to therapy is a brave one, and you should commend yourself for doing it – you are taking proactive steps to create the life you want. I view therapy as an opportunity for you to evaluate the stories you and others tell about who you are, identify the storylines that are not serving you, and construct new narratives that focus on your strengths which can help you take a more active stance in your life. This process is simple but powerful, and I believe deeply that it can help all of us isolate and move past the problems that have worked their way into our lives, helping us to reclaim our power.

Hi, and thank you for reading a snapshot of my work. After completing my undergraduate studies in psychology, I took a detour into a high-stress corporate field. Those years of experience and my own therapy kept me close to my interest in mental health. It even led me to earning an MA in psychology and becoming a therapist. While at a nonprofit, I gained experience working with individuals, couples, and groups. In this work, it is important for me that you feel seen, heard, and your voice upheld as a guidepost. Coming from a diverse family , I appreciate the complexities of building your self identity and having your sense of self.

You are a product of your community. As a result, you are a Survivor of the traumas, the cultural norms, and the "rules" that you followed in order to stay alive. When you based your survival on another's expectation of you, you eventually found yourself lost in the limbo of sacrificing your authenticity and your voice for the happiness and success of your social circle, family , and/or your community.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
