If you suffer from OCD, panic, fears, excessive worrying, or shyness, I can help you.
I'll leave the office to help you. For example, I'll go to the mall with you if you're afraid to do so, or get in the car with you if you have a driving phobia. Practicing in the real-world is the essential key to overcoming fears.

When suffering from anxiety disorders, people routinely overestimate negative outcomes, or catastrophize about they would fail to handle adversity. The brains of anxious people are overactive in neural networks responsible for threat detection. So what happens when one perceives threat in situations that aren’t truly dangerous? People often avoid feared situations entirely, find ways to mitigate perceived risk, or both. In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we call these avoidance and safety behaviors, and they are responsible for perpetuating anxiety. Do you want to reclaim a fulfilling life without needless worrying? I can help!

Suffering from anxiety, depression, or substance abuse often means unhealthy thought patterns/actions are reinforcing cognitive distortions and destructive behaviors. Anxiety leads to avoidance of situations that potentiate more anxiety, yet fears of triggering stimuli remain active. Depression is constituted by biases towards negative thoughts, and without challenging unfounded beliefs about one's worth or abilities, depression persists. Those abusing alcohol or other drugs cannot participate in life unaided by the numbing effect substances generate. These individuals are stuck, not broken. If motivated, they may all recover.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder ( OCD), phobias and stuck anxiety can boycott the development and happiness of your bright, spirited and sensitive child.
As a trained family therapist, I'm always aware behind that one person in the room stand the many more who love him/her. Parents/caregivers play a key part in the success of child therapy and sustaining progress. In fact, the family may very well be the best tool in the toolbox. I won’t shy away from having parents, siblings or the whole tribe in the room.

My practice focuses on helping clients cope with OCD, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges.
I use a relational approach, paying close attention to the ways past and present interpersonal dynamics may affect your current well-being. Together, we explore patterns that may no longer serve you, while developing healthier ways of coping and relating. I also incorporate behavioral techniques to help identify and shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors.

You feel isolated and overwhelmed in your journey into parenthood. You may be fed up with feeling like you aren't in control of your life, feeling anxious or alone. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to live without feeling guilt and shame. You’re ready to feel connected to yourself and your loved ones again. Most of all, you’re ready to find a way to go through the parenthood transition feeling positive and empowered.

Despite huge advances in modern technologies to extend life expectancy and increase physical comfort we have made only modest progress in relieving human psychological suffering. It appears that many of our attempts to "fix" ourselves frequently backfire. My approach is highly collaborative and uses the most up to date discoveries in the field of behavioral science to help you "have a mind without your mind having you". Together we can help you gain flexibility that reduces suffering and learn skills that increase values-based living.

Constantly coping with trauma, stress, isolation, grief, or substance abuse can make you feel like you are living in "survival mode." Therapy can help you find your way back to the life you want to be living. If you've reached this page, that means you're considering making a change - to better understand yourself, improve your relationships, create new habits, or rediscover your passions. This work can only occur when you feel comfortable and safe with your therapist. That is why I prioritize collaborative, culturally responsive, and patient-centered care.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
