With ADHD the therapy with Abby is to first help with any family conflict around the ADHD and its symptoms.
Abby works with girls with ADHD and/or Anxiety. Often they go hand-in-hand but not always. She works as a team with a psychiatric provider and an executive functioning coach. The team works together to create a comprehensive tailored program for each child and family. With ADHD there may be challenges with motivation with academics. Abby works with Hannah our executive functioning educational coach to take the power struggle away from parents and their teens fighting over homework and assignments each night. Hannah will work closely with hour child to set a calendar for the week that both Abby and Hannah follow.

Sentiero is an outpatient practice comprised of school psychologists, clinical psychologists, and registered psychological associates who conduct psychotherapy and psychological assessments. The approach at Sentiero is not a “one size fits all” model. While many of our clinicians utilize various theoretic modalities, we are grounded in psychoanalytic theory and tailor treatment to the needs of the patient.

Hello! I am Christina Chopin, a certified IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback practitioner and a self-proclaimed “brain geek”. I have a passion for helping individuals shake their unhelpful thought patterns, find a sense of clarity and help them to see how malleable and flexible their brain really is. Through my own journey suffering from a serious car accident and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), I understood quickly the impact that expertise and connection have when people are struggling with medical and mental health issues. And the impact microcurrent neuro feedback can have.

Chronic disconnect in brain-body-psyche networks cause abnormal wear 'n' tear resulting in premature aging, illness and reduced quality of life. Common warning signs include pain, anxiety and profound melancholy.  Lifestyle imbalances morph into sleep disorders and addictions. Loneliness quickly oscillates to overstimulation and overwhelm leaving many trapped in the depths of isolation.  Perfectionism and procrastination thwart our best laid plans leading to learned helplessness. Human suffering is immensely burdensome, but the weight of the world is not ours to carry alone.

Let’s face it, if you're reading this you’re struggling. It's OK to say it! Maybe you’re feeling depressed, anxious, or confused about your life or relationships. When was the last time you had a good night's sleep? Felt refreshed? Maybe you're thinking too much and getting overwhelmed by your emotions, feeling uninspired, or lacking spark and creativity. Do you feel empty, unmotivated, irritable? Maybe you need to work through the crap in your past and give yourself permission to be you? Maybe you're ready to actually live the life your Instagram makes it look like you are living? Good for you for being brave and reaching out!

I know how hard it can be to open up to a new person. Trust between you and your therapist is key for successful treatment and I want to help ease the transition. In the session we will work to unpack how you are managing emotionally, cognitively, physically, spiritually, and socially. My training has focused on high functioning individuals who may be successful in many domains (e.g., students, professionals) but are looking to improve functioning across the board. Let's look at past, present and future. We can collaborate to find the path for you - whether it is your first time or this is part of a long history in treatment.

Welcome! I specifically work with neurodiversity at my practice. Neurodiversity is a fancy way of saying that I work with all different brain types or "neurotypes" in my practice. I work with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Sensory Processing issues, among other neurotypes. I am a neurodivergent therapist myself, and my lived experience helps me to empathize and relate to my clients deeply. I take an affirming lens in my sessions, combating stigma and ableism, and assisting my clients to become more fully themselves. I am EMDR trained and trauma informed in my approach to therapy.

Welcome! I take a lifespan developmental approach with my clients, particularly through promoting self-compassion, encouraging the discovery of personal resilience, and helping work through challenges on the pathways of life. My integrative approach is primarily informed by helping the development of insight and accumulation of practical skills for symptom reduction that takes into account the cultural and familial context of your life. Additionally, I also focus my practice on providing psychological assessment/testing for ADHD and learning disabilities, as well as personality and cognitive functioning. I hold weekend appointment slots for immigration evaluations for those seeking hardship waivers.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
