Trauma and PTSD Therapists in Concord, CA
I enjoy working with individuals with anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, and/or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
I try to create a light-hearted and non-judgemental environment that allows individuals to build confidence and autonomy while gaining back control over mental health struggles. It's important to me that people feel supported as they navigate a journey of personal growth. Oftentimes, people are nervous to share thoughts or worries they have had for years without talking to someone about it. I challenge people to take the risk to open up and work to solve difficulties that have come up, to make enjoying life just a little bit easier.

I've had a varied experience since I was a sophomore in college, from group homes, residential facilities, job coaching, comorbid disorders, homelessness, domestic violence, trauma, abuse, family dynamics and working in the public sector.
#1 You are courageous. It is not easy to ask for help or be willing to look at coping strategies or attachment styles that are no longer serving you. I strive to provide an open unbiased environment to develop a comfortable therapist/client dynamic in order to begin processing past or current issues with a focus on goal setting and starting where you're at. Change happens when you believe it can happen and the only failure is in not trying. I strongly believe that there is no destination, only the journey and in focusing on the process and being mindful, you can achieve anything.

When someone is diagnosed with a serious illness, they have no idea what it means for their life, their future, their family, or their career. They have endless questions and nowhere to get answers. Just navigating the medical world feels like learning a whole new language in a foreign city. There are so many life changes, it can feel extremely overwhelming.

Life is chaotic enough when it's going well, so when you throw in life stressors, trauma triggers, and dating anxiety, it can be incredibly overwhelming.
I utilize EMDR to help clients who feel stuck due to trauma or unhelpful beliefs. I integrate attachment theory to address dating/relationship issues and low-esteem. I also use CBT and ACT to treat anxiety and body image issues. As someone who's been in therapy and used many of these same approaches, I feel I can personally vouch for their effectiveness.

The only thing scarier than change, is thinking things will never change. We love our partner, yet we fear love may not be enough. The relationship seems stuck. We constantly miscommunicate. We fight even when there’s nothing wrong. It doesn’t have to be like this and we don't have to find a new partner to have a new relationship. I honor the courage and strength it takes to ask for help. Together we will slow down the process, identify harmful relational patterns, and replace those dysfunctional patterns with new more satisfying interactions. My specialty is relational work couples/individuals. I have completed level 2 of Gottman.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
