The journey to parenthood is one of the most meaningful and life-changing experiences we go through as human beings. It is a journey that can be filled with great joy, but at times it can also be a heavy, heartbreaking, and even lonely road to travel. Experiences such as birth trauma , obstetric violence, infertility, and loss can leave us feeling broken and uncertain as to how to move forward. Anxiety, depression, and trauma can ultimately take a profound toll during this precious season of life.

I specialize in trauma -informed and trauma -specific therapy.
I have a vision of people being embraced and receiving the guidance of truth. Truth can be perceived as a relative concept evaded by so many and held in the eye of the beholder. But after working as a clinician and social worker for over 20 years and through my international travels, I have had the honor to witness the power of Truth in a transformative nature. Wisdom is not far by telling us that the Truth shall set you free. Truth baring requires courage, and courage requires vulnerability. I want to invite you to take the wildest journey you can imagine. A journey into yourself with open arms to embrace who you were meant to be.

Aloha! Life is full of change and transition, and that means life is also full of times when we need extra support to manage the anxiety, depression, and/or distress that often comes along with it. If this sounds like you, you're in the right place. I like to think of myself as a treatment partner, not someone who sits silently while you figure out your own path forward. That means I take a holistic, collaborative approach to treatment, with a nod to evidence-based practices, such as CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused, as well as using EMDR and trauma -focused CPT for PTSD and other trauma -related symptoms.

Rodriguez specializes in victim services (domestic violence and sexual assault), domestic violence offender treatment, law enforcement, trauma / PTSD , and marital issues (infidelity, sex addiction, and low/no intimacy/connection).
I believe the two major problem areas we face in life deal with our relationships and our coping; and the main factors influencing how we manage these issues relies on our attachment style, trauma history, and our emotional intelligence, or lack there-of. My job is to help unlock the unconscious- help bring awareness to these issues and how they may be negatively impacting your life and relationships. Essentially, my aim is to assist you in identifying and allowing yourself to express emotions, and learn to tolerate/manage anxiety and discomfort, rather than self-soothe in various, unsafe ways that are causing problems in your life.

Additionally, I'm trained in EMDR for trauma .
You feel overwhelmed by your anxiety at times; sometimes even to the point of having a panic attack. It can come out of nowhere and you don’t understand what brought it on or how to make yourself feel better. You feel helpless. Sometimes you can’t stop the tears from streaming down your face. You feel like no one cares about you or understands what you’re going through. There’s this unspoken pressure to just “get over it" and "move on" because "it's in the past." You say to yourself, “why can’t I just feel better already? What’s wrong with me?”

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety, or numbness, I’m here for you. Blaming yourself or feeling guilt or shame is no fun. These experiences are probably affecting your relationships, even the one with yourself. Your body gets bombarded with danger signals and in an attempt to cope you have learned to ignore your gut feeling and to numb the outside. Now you are noticing that this has challenged your ability to manage stressful situations, and it has led you to feel easily overwhelmed and wishing you could just shut it all off. This is what Complex PTSD can feel like when it goes untreated.

"Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze us; they’re supposed to help us discover who we are." --BJR Yet, we know life can be challenging and navigating life after experiencing trauma can be especially difficult. As a result, we leave ourselves vulnerable to issues negatively impacting our lives in many ways: physically, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. It is important to feel connected and understood! As a former school counselor with 20 years' experience working with adolescents, young adults and adults, I am devoted to helping clients resolve old, unhealthy patterns of thinking and behaving.

Specifically with individuals whom have experienced trauma and are struggling with symptoms related to depression, anxiety, and PTSD .
"I am here to get it right, not to be right" - Brene Brown. My role as a therapist is to listen with both an open mind and open heart as well as validate and understand your own lived experiences. I believe you are the expert of your life and posses many beautiful strengths that are yet to be uncovered. Sometimes when we are struggling with symptoms related to our mental health, we may feel out of control and powerless, I want to help you fight back against some of those negative thoughts we experience and feel confident in not only yourself, but in your ability to implement your communication and coping skills when needed.

Recovery from trauma , especially assoicated with domestic violence, sexual abuse, and assault, are areas of special focus.
Therapy usually begins with taking stock of one's current situation in life, and figuring out the best way to move forward. I have been helping adults and children with difficult life situations and transitions for almost 30 years. My intent is to be understanding; to listen and to hear but also provide feedback, in an environment you can count on as confidential and safe. I work with children, adults, and families.

I specialize in working with trauma (including sex trafficking) and have experience working with people battling drug/alcohol addiction (including marijuana), cultural difficulties, domestic violence, grief, ill family members, infertility, adoption, LEO families, and more.
Life is sometimes unexpectedly difficult and suffering can be inevitable. However, how you respond to life circumstances can drastically change your ability to enjoy life. I have worked with many people who have believed in lies about themselves after a traumatic incident or because toxic people have told them horrible things about themselves. These lies can be crippling and further result in problems with anxiety, depression, addictions, lack of sleep, school related difficulties, stress, anger issues, parenting difficulties, communication difficulties, relational issues, family problems, job dissatisfaction and much more. I provide different perspectives that encourage personal healing.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
