I'm a pastoral counselor, so I am able to integrate your own personal faith and spirituality should you choose to.
If hopelessness, loneliness, fear, anger, or despair are a part of your regular experience, there is help. Many people live their daily lives carrying these heavy burdens all alone. Sometimes marriage problems or recovery issues seem overwhelming, but you do NOT have to accept that as normal living. I am a specialist in life recovery and relational repair. I'm Gottman Level 1 trained in marital relationship therapy, hold certification in LIFE Languages™ & Couples Coaching™, and IBCC/AACC board certified. My greatest hope is that anyone reading this who feels overwhelmed, alone, and hopeless will be encouraged to reach out for help.

Do you resist counseling because of fear that you will be blamed for problems, afraid that you will cause your partner to feel blamed or to get angry? Instead of focusing on blame, we work on communication, feelings & needs by fostering understanding aiming toward solutions. While exploring each person's history coping style, encouraging insight into each partner's own part in the unproductive dynamic, I function as a neutral objective partner, not taking sides, helping you learn how to talk to each other without interruptions, insults or disdain & often assign homework to reinforce skills taught in-session to practice at home.

Hi, I'm Jeff! Whether you're here searching for yourself or a loved one, I applaud you for this step. Finding the right therapist can take time, but it's worth the effort. With 20 years in the field, I've whittled myself down to a few key characteristics: I'm caring, down-to-earth, and direct. If you're struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, family conflict, identity or relationship issues, I'd like to help! Therapy is sacred time for yourself... a place to safely explore, to build confidence, make changes, and to realize the path you want to travel.

If you’re reading this, you’re having some sort of trouble. I help good people get through tough times. There are many ways to do counseling. You can think of me as a life coach who offers principles to help you solve personal and relational problems. And /or, I can be your therapist to help you process a history of hurts and help you get on with your life. I work with couples and individuals (children, teens and adults) in an atmosphere that is casual and relaxed. I use language and tools you can use now. No psychobabble. If we connect we're likely to do some good work. So I'm ready when you are.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
