Using a wide range of therapy tools, we will develop a partnership in working through your unique trauma and
relationship
difficulties.
One of the fathers of therapy Carl Rogers felt that unconditional positive regard was the key to working with clients. The longer I work the more I find this to be true. I can be trained in a thousand groundbreaking techniques, but if we don't have a real connection, you probably won't get any better. I have spent the last 20+ years working with trauma, marriages,LGBTQIA+ issues, self-esteem, codependency, addiction, religious trauma, ENM, polyamorous, death & dying, etc. I can write thousands of reasons to choose me as your therapist, but we really won't know until we meet if we are a good match.

Is there something about your life that is not working? Do your struggles interfere with your ability to be happy and have satisfying relationships? Together, we can explore and discover the best way to approach your unique circumstances. I work with individuals and
couples
from an integrative approach in order to create a nurturing, encouraging and productive environment where we will address conflicts and patterns that are negatively affecting you. The origin of these issues often have their roots in unresolved childhood trauma and attachment deficits.

I started my practice in 1994 with a desire to help people through their difficult situations. As a father my heart goes out to children. I strive to meet people where they are and help them become the best they can be. The majority of my practice is made up of children and teens but I also work with a number of adults and
couples
. It is important to note not everyone is ready to face their struggles or change their situation. While I would like to help everyone the person must be ready and motivated for therapy to be effective.

The use of
relationship
is at the core of this practice.
My counseling style is eclectic and client focused with a systems perspective. I have experience working with children, adolescents, individuals, families and
couples
. I believe that people act or behave with the intent of feeling good, but often develop coping behavior along the path of life that no longer serves them. I assist clients in identifying and connecting with the positive intent behind "dysfunctional behavior", and discovering new methods of coping that lead to a more balanced and joyful journey through life.

We as people are all broken on some level, but we don’t need to stay that way. Depending upon the cards we have been dealt in life, what’s been done to us, and what we’ve done to ourselves, many of us develop fractures in our view of the world. These “fractures” affect how we view ourselves and our relationships. No matter what you are going through at this stage in life, you don’t need to struggle alone. There is hope! Whether you’re dealing with
relationship
issues, career problems, abuse, anxiety, depression, or self-destructive habits, change is possible. I believe that every person has the capacity to heal, grow, and change!

All the little things add up and sometimes it feels like you're drowning in petty things; creating stress, overwhelm, and panic. Other times it makes you want to shut down and shut everything and everyone out. You believe you should be able to handle all these little things because each thing isn't really that big, and yet you feel weak and disappointed in yourself that these "little things" are tripping you up. I'm here to tell you that you don't have to live a life of "death by a thousand cuts." This is normal. It's a normal response to a crazy amount of tiny things and probably some unhealthy people around you.

After over 40 years of practicing psychotherapy, I've learned that the quality of the
relationship
between therapist and client is an incredibly powerful catalyst for personal growth and healing. The core of this unique bond is trust. I focus on building trust through repeated experiences of empathy, heartfelt responses, helpful insights, shared humor, and a readiness to admit and repair mistakes. As the foundation of safety takes hold, we explore the issues that brought you into therapy. We can explore the traumas of the past that deeply disturb your sense of well-being.

You love your
partner
, but lately you've been wondering if this is the right
relationship
for you. It might also be that you've "fallen out of love" and you don't know how to get out of the
relationship
. These dilemmas are very normal and they're usually the result of not knowing how to communicate your needs to yourself or to your
partner
. Understanding what's going on in your heart, sifting through all the noise to get through to the most important components, and carving out a path within you to heal what's hurting or sabotaging you in your relationships: staying, choosing unhealthy partners, hurting while in good relationships

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
