Perhaps the most important variable in therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. When meeting with new clients, I aim to establish a close and accountable working relationship as a basis for ongoing growth in your life. I give and welcome a lot of feedback, which improves the therapeutic relationship.

A time comes in all our lives when we’re called to grow and heal. Thankfully, the ability to do so is part of our human nature—something that naturally comes alive when met with the right kind of support. Therapy offers this support. It’s not about “fixing” you, but about supporting the capabilities you already carry within to get to a better place. With broad training and experience as a therapist, I’ve witnessed firsthand—in myself and in others—our innate ability to heal and grow, no matter what’s happening right now, no matter what happened back then, and no matter what feels uncertain about the future.

My ideal client feels overwhelmed by life’s challenges, whether it’s sadness, low energy, anxiety, or difficulty connecting with others. They may feel stuck, uncertain about their direction, or burnt out from workplace stress. Some struggle with confidence or navigating family and relationship conflicts. Others need support taking time off work to heal from stress or anxiety through SDI. Sometimes, they simply need someone to talk to—a safe space to explore what’s within. I collaborate with clients to uncover their inner strength and create clarity, peace, and growth.

Many people come to me feeling stuck in patterns they cannot fully name, repeating cycles of anxiety, self-criticism, or avoidance that keep them from moving forward. Others know what they want in life but struggle to take responsibility and act because of fear of the unknown, failure, or losing control. Facing these challenges can feel overwhelming, but it does not have to stay that way. My work focuses on slowing things down to help you see what is happening beneath the surface, including the beliefs, emotions, and experiences that shape how you think, feel, and respond to the world.

Whether you have just become a father or are a father of multiple children entering a new developmental stage in your children’s lives, the transition can be stressful and overwhelming. It can lead to discord with your partner, can impact your ability to be the father you want to be, and it can cloud your professional goals and aspirations.

You already have the power to change your life, although you may not know it yet. Together we can uncover the issues that keep you from living life to the fullest, and to identify the means and resources necessary to make those changes. Facing the obstacles we create to keep us from changing can be painful, but not catastrophic, and the result can make it all worthwhile.

My specialty is treating the broad spectrum of anxiety disorders including: panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, blood draw/injection phobia, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), tic disorders, and Tourette's Disorder. I use a cognitive-behavioral treatment approach that has shown the best treatment efficacy for each disorder listed above. For example, I would use "exposure-response prevention" for OCD , "habit reversal" for tics and Tourette's, and "Mastery of Your Anxiety and Panic" workbooks for panic disorder.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
