Does it seem like you are often on edge, irritable, angry, or anxious? Do people complain that you are isolated, a workaholic, drink too much, are shut down emotionally? Is it difficult to get motivated to do anything? Maybe you are haunted by a horrific incident that happened to you. Perhaps you are struggling with a significant loss. Often the people we care about the most take the brunt of our anger, irritability and anxiety. This can lead to strained or conflicted relationships with a spouse, other family members, co-workers or friends and may result in significant negative consequences to a
marriage
and career.

As an Associate
Marriage
and Family Therapist, I assist in instilling hope and facilitating change in others who face a variety of barriers and concerns.
I work with Individuals, Couples, adolescents, and persons identifying as LGBTQI, who feel as if they need assistance figuring out their personal barriers to success and happiness. I provide assistance to those who may need to overcome generational stigmas or traumas that have left them with negative self thoughts, mood issues, thinking and behaviors. In todays society we face a daily onslaught of emotional and physical triggers, just by reading the news or figuring out sheltering in place during a pandemic, with the kids home! I get it, and I can help balance your emotions, priorities and self-care, in the midst of all the chaos.

More specifically, I offer services to individuals, couples including partnerships, pre-
marital
counseling;
marital
adjustment; midlife shifts, and aging.
I have been a therapist since 1987. I see adults only, specializing in women’s issues, couples’ therapy and issues in aging. I listen well, applying both psychological theories and practical life experience to understand what my client is experiencing from a psychological perspective. I also consider what social pressures or situations impact your thinking/emotional states and what therapeutic approaches might be most helpful. I take into account the client's unique human diversity, personal development, and spirituality. Together, we select achievable goals and work toward those.

Is your
marriage
or partnership showing signs of stress? Are you not sure if blending families is a good idea? Over 60% of blended families in the U.S. with children do not succeed and negatively impact children's mental health. I help couples in conflict or who have grown apart (especially in blended families), create a more loving home using evidence-based methods, including the Gottman Method, and Bader-Pearson Couples Therapy. I utilize compassion- and mindfulness-based methods to improve your parenting AND your partnership at the same time, while addressing the underlying causes of conflicts.

and Family Therapist working in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have broad professional experience as a mediator, conflict management consultant, educator, and trainer. I bring the skills I've acquired in these roles to my therapy work. We humans are adaptive beings. When we adopt behaviors and mindsets that do not serve us, we may feel stuck, fearful, or intensely unhappy. Thankfully, we can modify our thinking and behaviors to promote a life of growth, happiness and healthy relationships. I provide skilled support to help repair troubled relationships and re-route unproductive thinking and behavior patterns.

I provide individual, couples, and family therapy. I work with families with both teenage (ages 15+) and adult children. When working with teens, I take a family therapy approach and involve both the adolescent and the parents. With individuals, I work with adults on issues such as anxiety, past trauma, stress, relationship issues, boundary setting, assertiveness, self-criticism, and overall enhancement of their wellbeing, happiness, and life satisfaction. With couples, I primarily utilize Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy but also pull from other couples therapy modalities such as Gottman.

My practice is rooted in the belief that there is power in knowing and telling your own story. Who are you? Where did you come from? What's important to you? Let's work together to untangle your story, identify your strengths, goals, passions, and barriers; and make you the author of what comes next. I work with people who want to make positive changes, but feel paralyzed by stress, fear, indecision, or old habits. I can also help you learn concrete strategies for managing uncomfortable thoughts, emotions, transitions, health conditions or problematic relationships.

Psychotherapy can be a life-changing experience - positive, productive treatment begins with a safe, trusting empathic client-therapist alliance. My approach is solution-focused which means I like to concentrate on client strengths. Together, we collaborate toward understanding and resolving concerns and struggles in the present moment. I also focus on origin of concerns (root causes) as well as future health and happiness. To do this, I integrate numerous modalities, as treatment depends on clients needs. Clients I work best with like a direct approach, with a twist of humor.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
