I’ve enjoyed working as a psychologist for over 20 years and my clients teach me a great deal as they trust me with their therapeutic process. The vulnerability and confidence they share with me is a privilege and a gift, as well as a deep responsibility. I realize that making the decision to see a therapist is often a long and challenging one. It’s scary to ask for help and my goal is to help you feel as safe as possible, while working through the concerns that you need assistance with. I provide HIPPA Compliant Video sessions for all clients, so you can have therapy sessions from the comfort and privacy of your home or office

I work with Individuals, Couples, adolescents, and persons identifying as LGBTQI, who feel as if they need assistance figuring out their personal barriers to success and happiness. I provide assistance to those who may need to overcome generational stigmas or traumas that have left them with negative self thoughts, mood issues, thinking and behaviors. In todays society we face a daily onslaught of emotional and physical triggers, just by reading the news or figuring out sheltering in place during a pandemic, with the kids home! I get it, and I can help balance your emotions, priorities and self-care, in the midst of all the chaos.

One of the amazing aspects of therapy is that it provides a unique opportunity for people to have a space where the focus is on their needs and growth. Very few other spaces exist where your needs and well-being can be the priority. This is a key part of the healing power of therapy, which is why I believe it is so important you find a therapist who is a good fit for you. COVID-19: Telehealth sessions by secure video or phone; and In-Person sessions in Castro Valley (Th/Fri) or Hayward (Mon) (following Alameda County guidelines). Psychotherapy can be a life-changing experience - positive, productive treatment begins with a safe, trusting empathic client-therapist alliance. My approach is solution-focused which means I like to concentrate on client strengths. Together, we collaborate toward understanding and resolving concerns and struggles in the present moment. I also focus on origin of concerns (root causes) as well as future health and happiness. To do this, I integrate numerous modalities, as treatment depends on clients needs. Clients I work best with like a direct approach, with a twist of humor.

"I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better." -Maya Angelou. Therapy is a collaborative and supportive journey where we will work together to help you learn practical skills and tools, and to help you to view yourself and others in a more accurate and nonjudgmental light. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions to address thoughts or behaviors that may be negatively impacting your emotions and relationships, and/or getting in the way of achieving your goals.

There are times in our life when difficulties lead to thoughts and feelings inside of us that we are uncomfortable with. Ignoring those feelings doesn’t exactly make them go away often leaving us frustrated and feeling stuck. So what can you do? Well, I can tell you that counseling is a helpful way to find relief and healing for those struggling with mental and emotional suffering, relationship conflicts, daily stress, and unhealthy behavior patterns.

Therapy is about change. What I enjoy most about my work is witnessing people make real changes in their lives and relationships. Many people have habitual ways of thinking, acting and interacting that do not lead to the outcomes they hope for in life. I see my role as therapist as one of helping people become more aware of the choices they make that do or don't work for them. Through better self understanding, people are able to change internal or relational habits and achieve greater satisfaction in relationships and in life in general.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
