I believe that in order for the therapy to be effective, I need to emotionally meet you where you're at, and be beside you along the journey. Whether it's through music, video games, or other creative mediums, we can explore grief & loss, anxiety, or general
relationship
dynamics in a way that's effective for you.

I specialize in working with individuals and
couples
struggling with anxiety, anger, stress and trauma.
Does it seem like you are often on edge, irritable, angry, or anxious? Do people complain that you are isolated, a workaholic, drink too much, are shut down emotionally? Is it difficult to get motivated to do anything? Maybe you are haunted by a horrific incident that happened to you. Perhaps you are struggling with a significant loss. Often the people we care about the most take the brunt of our anger, irritability and anxiety. This can lead to strained or conflicted relationships with a
spouse
, other family members, co-workers or friends and may result in significant negative consequences to a marriage and career.

I work with
couples
and adult individuals with
relationship
issues, depression, anxiety, and life transition issues.
Therapy is about change. What I enjoy most about my work is witnessing people make real changes in their lives and relationships. Many people have habitual ways of thinking, acting and interacting that do not lead to the outcomes they hope for in life. I see my role as therapist as one of helping people become more aware of the choices they make that do or don't work for them. Through better self understanding, people are able to change internal or relational habits and achieve greater satisfaction in relationships and in life in general.

There are times in our life when difficulties lead to thoughts and feelings inside of us that we are uncomfortable with. Ignoring those feelings doesn’t exactly make them go away often leaving us frustrated and feeling stuck. So what can you do? Well, I can tell you that counseling is a helpful way to find relief and healing for those struggling with mental and emotional suffering,
relationship
conflicts, daily stress, and unhealthy behavior patterns.

The focus is you. People who are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, and loss sometimes forget that they matter. Other things become more important. When we work together, the most important person is you. We work on getting you better emotionally, physically and spiritually. Then you can heal and have a more balanced life. My clients tell me they appreciate how I get them unstuck in difficult times. They find hope and get energized about their life. I work well with cultural, biracial, multiracial and faith based situations. I have helped many individuals,
couples
, families and children achieve their goals.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
