For the past six years, I have had the honor of being a Brainspotting clinician, and every day I’m reminded of the profound capacity the brain and body have to heal. It truly fascinates me—each time a client taps into their natural wisdom and inner resilience, I feel humbled to witness what unfolds.
You bring your truth, and I bring presence, grounding, and steady support!

Hello! I am Adrienne Ramirez, MS, LMFT. My clinical focus is trauma-informed dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Me and my work are a safe space for LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and any marginalized community. Everything I do is trauma-informed which means that I focus on behaviors, beliefs, and thoughts as a response to trauma, not "bad behavior" on your part. My approach is pretty eclectic as needed; however, I mainly use dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

I am extremely passionate about empowering individuals, couples and families to heal and live their best, most authentic lives. I strongly believe that each and every individual, regardless of background, ability, or beliefs, should have a safe space where they can feel comfortable being their true self. Do you often find yourself wondering why it feels so hard to simply feel okay? Maybe you’re carrying the weight of past experiences, feeling overwhelmed by daily life, or exhausted from constantly pushing through. You may feel stuck, disconnected, anxious, or like something is “off,” even if you can’t fully explain it. Perhaps you’ve tried different coping tools—or even therapy before—but still haven’t found lasting relief. Reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, especially when what you truly need is to feel seen, understood, and accepted as you are.

My career in the helping professions started in 1997 at a residential program in San Francisco working with adults with substance use issues and co-occurring mental health disorders. This launched a long road of determination to attain a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 2008 and then a Master’s in Social Work in 2010. I obtained my Clinical License in 2015. Throughout my educational years and afterward, I worked with many different populations such as children, teens, TAY, former foster youth, homeless youth, adults with mental illness, homeless adults, and those arrested for alcohol and/or drug related offenses.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
