My approach is to create an accepting, supportive, non-judgmental partnership in order to help my clients discover their strengths, inner resources, and to achieve a deeper understanding of who they are. This work will help you to overcome or more effectively deal with such problems as anxiety, depression , anger, stress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and attention deficit disorder. We work together to identify self-defeating thought patterns or unconscious defenses that might be getting in the way of your natural capacity for satisfying relationships, or the full and authentic expression of who you are.

Over the past 14-years I have had the privilege of working to help youth, families, and adults suffering from symptoms of anxiety, behavioral problems, depression , dissociation, grief, relationship problems, and trauma. All the clients I have worked with have several things in common: social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems that lead to an impairment in their ability to function and to suffering; a desire to reduce their experiences of suffering; the courage to share their personal stories in therapy; and a willingness to try something different.

I have over 40 years experience, 20 in the Monterey Peninsula. I believe that the key to most emotional and psychological problems lies in relationships, those in the past and in the present. Learned conscious and unconscious behavior patterns can cause difficulties in life, and these behavior problems can be changed or modified. My approach is eclectic, utilizing Gestalt Therapy, psychodrama, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Therapy, and other modalities within a psychodynamic framework. I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families. I see people who are depressed , stressed, anxious, or who are having relationship or sexual problems.

My approach to my clients is warm, open, and accepting, and, at the same time, I am ready and willing to provide direct and honest feedback. I enjoy bringing a sense of humor and creativity, as well as strong professional ethics to my work. While my initial goal is to work together with my clients to relieve depression , anxiety, trauma, and other problems, ultimately I work with the whole person to develop and utilize his or her strengths to find balance and self-acceptance and to become more open to deeper experiences of love and joy.

Therapy is an investment in yourself and it can impact the trajectory of your life. We all experience symptoms of anxiety, depression , grief and overwhelm from time-to-time but you don't have to navigate those dark times alone. We don't heal in isolation; struggles become more bearable when they are companioned by someone who helps you clear a path toward the life you want to live. During sessions we will identify and challenge dysfunctional patterns, investigate the impact of family history, build resilience, and identify your strengths while expanding your repertoire of healthy coping skills.

These are trying times. Stress takes up residence in our nervous systems and wreaks havoc on our careers, our relationships and our bodies. It doesn’t disappear simply by ignoring it or by gritting our teeth and trudging stoically down the same stressful path. So, whether you are struggling with burnout, depression , anxiety, work/life balance, grief/bereavement or the responsibility of leadership, you do not have to carry the burden alone. One of the kindest things you can do for yourself is seek support. Give yourself the gift of good therapy—you are worth the investment.

I work with people who feel stuck; those struggling with feelings or behaviors that make them feel isolated, confused, different. Whether it be depression , anxiety, perfectionism/self-criticism, loneliness, shame, abuse, working through and healing from trauma, or improving your relationship with yourself or others, there *really are genuine ways to heal. We all need to feel safe, to be seen and heard, and to have our feelings honored for change to happen; and that is what I offer you: A safe space to explore and understand what’s been keeping you where you are, so you can discover a new way to the life you want.

You were born with innate potential and natural abilities, yet it may be easy to forget your personal power if you struggle with depression , anxiety, grief, relationship issues, or overwhelmingly stressful life situations. Allow me to help gently guide you back to a sense of empowerment and together we can work on shifting your focus toward the personal strengths that give you energy. I am active in giving support and feedback and I will compassionately challenge beliefs and actions that no longer work for you. I believe you can change the way you think about painful experiences; seeing them instead, as transformative opportunities.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression therapists in Carmel. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
