In my professional experience, people come to therapy when they are feeling unhappy, stuck or blocked in some way and feel that they have exhausted their available resources and coping mechanisms. My role as a therapist is to serve as a guide to help the client identify and express their needs and wants, as well as assist the client in recognizing their strengths and abilities to heal and grow. I work with clients to help them understand their past experiences and current situation in order to move forward. I am warm, compassionate, collaborative and interactive in my approach.

I am passionate about providing quality, in-depth, and compassionate therapy for those wanting to understand themselves and their relationships on a deeper level, especially those feeling frustrated with relational and habitual patterns that no longer serve them. I strive to do this by collaboratively exploring your inner workings to uncover maladaptive beliefs, behaviors, or emotional responses that have developed as a result of painful past experiences that continue to shape your perception of yourself, others, and the world. I seek to understand all of the above in the context of your unique ecosystem of culture and upbringing.

It is my goal as a therapist to break the stigma of therapy. Some still believe that only “broken people” seek therapy and I am here to tell you that is not true! Seeking therapy is NOT a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength! We, as humans, were created for connection and expression, and the therapy room is simply a safe space for that to occur. Whether you are dealing with fear, loss, uncertainty or just need someone to talk too, I am here. There is no issue that is too big to bring in the room!

I provide psychological services to help people struggling with symptoms of addiction or compulsive sexual behaviors. Having over 25 years in practice, I treat those that suffer from symptoms caused from childhood experiences of neglect, emotional, physical or sexual trauma. 'Less than nurturing' parenting can cause adulthood anxiety, depression and addiction. Many of my clients have struggled with addictive behaviors using substances (alcohol, drugs) or processes (sex, love, work) to deal with emotional pain. There is a high correlation between painful childhood experiences and addictive behaviors.

Hi there, I'm Kathleen! I believe therapy is a place where you don't have to figure things out alone. Together we can explore what feels overwhelming - whether that's trauma, attention issues, relationship challenges, major life transitions, or the stress of daily life. I am here to collaborate with you through this journey. My approach combines listening carefully to your individual needs and applying skills and strategies that fit your needs. I use a blend of evidence-based methods such as CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing to help individuals manage challenges, and I draw on the Gottman Method when working with couples.

I grew up in a pastoral family and raised in a multi-cultural and multi-generational church. Singing is one of my passions and I have been involved in worship with my mom most of my adult life. I am generally inquisitive, culturally competent, and embrace diversity. I ask a lot of questions. I incorporate Biblical perspectives in my practice (with clients who request it directly or express an interest in exploring God during our work together). I identify as a faith-baded therapist though all are welcome. Please visit my website for specifics regarding specialities.

When you're living with anxiety, depression, or the weight of past trauma, it can be hard to feel like yourself. Maybe you're showing up for others while quietly struggling inside—pushing through the day, but feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or just not okay. These feelings can take a toll over time, making it difficult to feel hopeful or grounded. I hold a Master’s in Education and Clinical Counseling from Azusa Pacific University (2017), and I support clients through an integrative approach that draws from CBT, DBT, Internal Family Systems, SFT, and supportive therapy, always working at a pace that feels right for you.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
