I have years of experience and training using this approach to treat
anxiety
,
panic
, PTSD and depression and the underlying issues that contribute to these such as trauma, grief and anger.
Perhaps you are dealing with painful events outside of your control, your emotions are becoming unmanageable, or you are experiencing a new symptom that is sudden and overwhelming. It is very human to want to "feel normal" when dealing with these, but sometimes how we attempt to do this hurts us more. This could include the different ways we avoid our emotions, attempt to “be perfect" or negatively judge ourselves. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) I will help you identify and change ways of thinking and behaving that are impacting your mental health.

Let's address the stress across the essential areas of your life and explore the positive changes you can make each day. You deserve to relax, feel good about yourself and others, strengthen your intuition, and have compassionate support along the way.

I specialize in treating adults experiencing trauma,
anxiety
or depression.
You want to feel content and self-assured but inside you are struggling with second guessing or feeling stuck or out of control and powerless. Maybe you are feeling that something, deep down, could be wrong with you. Or maybe you are frustrated, resentful and angry at being misunderstood or unappreciated. Do you feel like no matter how hard you try to be the person you are “supposed to be” it’s never enough? You might feel like giving up because you are tired of trying to improve your life, but keep repeating the patterns that make you feel like you will never measure up.

I specialize in ADHD and
anxiety
disorders, which are often co-occurring. My approach to ADHD is multi-faceted. Initially, we start with my comprehensive ADHD assessment so I can learn what specific executive skills you struggle with. I appreciate that there is no classic presentation of ADHD and that it is often misdiagnosed as another mental health disorder. As for
anxiety
, I will aid you learning how to have agency over your nervous system as well as explore what is driving the
anxiety
in order to at least minimize symptoms, if not eliminate them. I have programs available on my website for assisting in this process.

Life changing events, a traumatic past, interpersonal conflicts, ongoing difficult feelings, such as
anxiety
, grief, depression and guilt all motivate people to seek therapy. Therapy works best where a trusting relationship is developed. Experience, compassion, respect, honesty, deep deep listening, and when appropriate, humor, are traits I bring to the therapeutic relationship. I support my clients in exploring ways to manage difficult feelings, people or circumstances. This may be by practicing self-care, recognizing unhealthy patterns, finding perspective, expanding coping skills and discovering opportunities for growth.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
