As an LMFT specializing in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I help couples make sense of BIG feelings and stop relationship spirals in their tracks. " My approach combines IFS, ACT, somatic work, and a bit of DBT-inspired tools, all guided by the therapeutic relationship.
Lately, you’ve been reacting in ways that don’t feel like you. You're snapping faster, overthinking everything, struggling to relax even when you get a moment. You keep telling yourself you should be able to handle this, but something feels off. Whether you’re pregnant, postpartum, or deep in motherhood, things feel louder, harder, and more constant than they used to. You’re still showing up, but quietly wondering, "what is happening to me?" It's exhausting trying to keep up appearances when you feel this way inside. I help moms in this exact place slow things down, make sense of what’s underneath, and start feeling steady again.

It’s a hard thing to be a highly sensitive person, and even more so when you’re also balancing the challenges of being a high-achieving woman. It’s all too common that we doubt ourselves or face mental health struggles, navigating the space between feeling both “too much” and “not enough”. Over the years of work that I’ve done, I’ve come to realize that the ease with which we navigate this space is largely determined by our ability to embrace and celebrate our strengths while simultaneously accepting and holding the parts of ourselves that we might not appreciate so much with non-judgment and self-compassion.

So many women arrive at therapy feeling like they've lost themselves. New moms blindsided by the emotional weight of postpartum anxiety or depression. Women in the thick of a life transition who feel unsteady and unsure of who they are anymore. Teens quietly struggling under pressure no one around them fully sees. Whatever brought you here, you don't have to keep navigating it on your own. I work with women, moms, and teens around maternal mental health, postpartum anxiety and depression, life transitions, and anxiety, using a mindfulness and nature inspired approach to help you reconnect with your own strength.

You’ve been trying to "think" your way out of your problems for a long time, yet you keep finding yourself back at the same starting line. Whether it’s a struggle with substances that has started to feel like a heavy weight, or an anxiety that turns every decision into a high-stakes gamble, it sounds like you’re tired of the gap between who you are and who you know you could be. It’s draining to feel like your own mind is working against you. I’m Dr. Douglas Johnson, and I help adults who are ready to stop just "managing" their symptoms and start understanding where they actually come from.

This is not traditional talk therapy as I use somatic methods, a trauma-focused lens & deep exploration to identify roots of distress.
Welcome Friends! I'm Marisa, a trauma therapist & non-pathologizing clinician. I use body-based skills, parts work and a compassionate approach to help adults dealing with emotional suppression. Did you grow up in a home where you experienced emotional neglect? Have you found yourself locked in states of rumination, agitation, & anxiety? Do you feel trapped in a part of your life that you can't think your way out of? I understand the need for safety, belonging & "relief", and how our mind clings to control and certainty. Allow me to help you connect to your body, build capacity, return to authenticity & find sustainable peace.

Therapy, at its core, is a journey of shared humanity. You are not a diagnosis, but a human being, with really good reasons for how you got to this point in life. Honoring the ways you have survived your pain cultivates your self acceptance which is essential to my approach to transformative therapy. Whether you find yourself caught in negative relationship patterns, repetitive self criticism or trapped cycles of procrastination and overwhelm, together we can work to uncover the roots of your struggles and transform these negative patterns.

Welcome, are you someone who feels like they're doing everything right on the outside, yet are struggling internally with a sense of disconnection, anxiety, or feeling stuck in a painful pattern? or maybe your a couple who has forgotten how to be friends, or an individual who feels overwhelmed by the pressure to keep it all together. What you need is a safe, compassionate space to unpack the 'why' behind the struggles and be seen without judgment. My goal isn't simply to stop a negative behavior, but to achieve a deeper transformation. Let's trade resentment for connection, and anxiety for a sense of purpose.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
