My focus is centered on trauma and the patterns of stress that influence anxiety, depression and most forms of addiction.
You're tired of pretending everything is fine when inside, it's not. Maybe you're constantly anxious, emotionally numb, or stuck in the same painful patterns- in relationships, in your work, or just with yourself. You've tried coping, pushing through or staying busy, but it's no longer working. You're looking for real change- not just temporary relief.

My clinical background includes treating individuals with co-occurring disorders, substance use disorders, trauma-related concerns, and complex mental health needs.
Your first therapy session is a time for us to get to know each other and to make sure therapy feels like a good fit for you. It’s normal to feel nervous, unsure, or even relieved to be starting—there’s no “right” way to show up.

You deserve a happy, healthy life. Life and relationships can be increasingly painful, yet it is difficult to reach out for help. The longer we put off getting help, the worse things can become. I am here to support your growth and help you make needed changes. It is possible to learn to stop life patterns that keep us in a cycle of unhappiness. I confront in a gentle way so that you can begin to learn how to change those patterns.

Working through difficult experiences and emotions can be challenging. It can be even harder to make desired changes in ones life when certain patterns have been established for so long. I work hard to ensure that my clients feel safe and supported throughout this process. By creating a comfortable and lighthearted environment, individuals, families, and couples are able to gain some reprieve from the difficulties they are experiencing. This allows change to begin to occur in the lives of my clients.

You didn’t get to where you are by accident—but you still don’t always trust your own judgment. You reach career goals, support others, and look like you’ve got it all together, yet still feel stuck in self-doubt, burnout, or emotional patterns you thought you outgrew. I help high-achieving women untangle the perfectionism that leads to overwhelm, the fear that blocks boundaries, and the relationship struggles that leave them feeling alone—even when they’re not. I have a special interest in helping women who are seeking to turn their adhd into a superpower rather than a saboteur.

Life is complex and it's often hard to handle the situations that come up each day or resurface over longer periods of time. Whether figuring out what to do about challenging children, issues in a close relationship, or which way to go as you move forward in life, uncertainties can stop anyone in their tracks. Few things are worse than feeling stuck and struggling when it seems like everyone else has it all figured out. It doesn't have to be that way. Things change, if we're watching we find opportunities to heal, learn, and grow.

I have over 20 years of experience in helping individuals, couples and families move through the anger, hurt and fear often associated with difficult life transitions. I believe that while we cannot directly change events that happen in our lives, most of us can learn to change our perceptions about these issues.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
