I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist based in California, and I have over a decade of expertise in supporting adult women in their journey toward eating disorder recovery.
As someone who's gone through my own recovery journey, I understand how overwhelming recovery can feel, but I also know it's possible! My approach is rooted in compassion, humor (because let's be real, recovery is messy), and a deep understanding of the root causes of eating disorder behaviors. My goal is to create a safe space where you feel supported.

Your therapy is your journey of self-discovery to enable you to make informed decisions, to re-educate yourself, and even to re-parent yourself. It is similar to mountain climbing where a guide is exceedingly helpful. A therapist is like a Sherpa; he carries what may be too heavy to carry, sometimes he walks ahead to clear the path but often he follows your lead, after all it is your journey. When you are on your journey and you feel the need for a guide, a Sherpa to facilitate your journey, I may be of assistance.

I take a dynamic approach, helping others through developing the courage and confidence to build new skills, change unhelpful views of the self, and increasing insight and understanding and acceptance of where you are, while working toward where you want to be. The more open and willing you are to share, the better we can work together to come to a shared plan, view of the problem and work toward more distress tolerance.

I work with men and women healing from trauma and addiction to break intergenerational cycles and rediscover connection—with themselves, their bodies, and their lives. Healing often begins in the places we feel most stuck—old patterns, relational pain, or struggles with addiction/dependencies. I work with men, women, and teens to help them reconnect with themselves and others, creating space for healing, awareness, and self-compassion.

You spend your days endlessly and painfully obsessing over what you did or didn't eat, how much you did or didn't exercise, or how uncomfortable you feel in your body. Thoughts of food and body have completely taken over your life and you are at a place where you feel powerless and completely out of control. You have tried time and time again to "get it under control," but you are lost. You are anxious, depressed, and truly do not know what to do. This place you are in is so painful, chaotic, and confusing. I get it - I have been there, and I can help.

The therapeutic relationship is one that I hold close to my heart, as it is a piece of the puzzle that allowed me to flourish into my true self. I know firsthand what it is like to struggle and feel as though the obstacles ahead appear to be near impossible, whether big or small. While in the moment they may seem insurmountable, truly these experiences become the seeds of transformation and the foundation for stepping into our greatest possibilities in life.

I have extensive training & certifications (EMDR, Safe and Sound Protocol, Family Systems Therapy, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Trauma Conscious Yoga, Emotionally Focused Therapy & Eating Disorders).
You want to change behaviors, and change negative feelings, not just understand them. Building insight is important, but that's not enough. Most of us know why we do what we do, where that comes from (our old stuff). It is not enough to just understand behavior. There's something that keeps us stuck - whether its a cycle within ourselves, or a cycle with another person. We have got to change our old patterns by embodying a new truth for ourselves, from our head to our toes. That takes a ton of trust in something foreign and new.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
