So you’ve known for a while that you needed to talk to a therapist, but you’re not sure who will actually get you. Glad you found me. Maybe you’ve held it together so well that even you started believing your struggles weren’t “that bad.” You’ve learned to go it alone, carry all the responsibility, and push through. For a while, it worked: you checked the boxes, hit the milestones, got the bag. But now you’re exhausted, overthinking, and wondering why a life that looks fine on paper still feels so hard and empty.

We are perfectly imperfect beings wholly deserving of authentic and meaningful lives. For many of us, we strive to feel heard, be seen, and accepted for who we are. Being disconnected from our truth can lead to feelings of loneliness, hopelessness, and helplessness. Through the many seasons of our lives, we are met with unforeseen challenges that impact our ability to navigate life easefully. Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of immense strength. When we feel lost or unsure of what to do next, inviting an empathic other on our journey can be a life changing experience.

Hey there! Deciding to start the journey of therapy is something people come to for so many reasons. To heal trauma. To grieve. To vent. To find the way through a huge life transition. To discover who they are. To learn better ways to cope. To find a way to become un-stuck when things just aren’t working. It is about sitting through feelings in a safe space where you can develop new patterns and experience emotional wellness and healing. I practice from a variety of theoretical frameworks, drawing on aspects of Cognitive-Behavioral and Psychodynamic approaches through a trauma-informed lens.

Are you A GUY who feels confused and clueless about how to create a deeper emotional connection with your intimate partner? Perhaps just as important, is it possible for you to do that in a way that would not sacrifice your sense of masculinity?!? Not only is it possible for you to learn how to speak the Truth of how you feel in a way that will feel masculine, but it will also become a source of personal strength that will help you build a more mature and honest relationship with yourself and with the person you love. I have specialized in working with adult men for 35 years.

I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and love working with individuals and couples. I believe that everyone desires connection and wants to be heard. I also believe actually receiving it and having a desire are vastly different. Most of us find the "one," then life happens, careers kick off, kids, and before we know it the connection has been lost. We feel stuck, lost, and like it's impossible to get it back to that feeling. My job is to help you to identify those stuck places and develop new experiences that propel you forward in the relationship and better equip you when similar feelings of disconnection arise.

I specialize in working with people in transitional periods of life. Transitional phases can be identified by feelings of "stuckness," or a general sense that something just isn’t right in our lives. Often we feel hardened to the world or as if we're living in a dream. I know transformation can be painful and scary, but you don't have to do it alone. I am here to help. Together we can explore where you've been and where you want to go.

I have extensive experience in treating anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and codependency.
Do you ever find yourself living in fear and going down rabbit holes in your head? Do you base your well being, enjoyment and serenity on what is going on with those around you? If you are a parent, do you put yourself and your well being last and subscribe to thoughts such as "I am only as happy as my least happy child or family member"? Are you convinced it is more important to spend money on getting therapy or help for your child or loved ones and not on yourself? Are you a parent or family member of someone who is part of the LGBTQ+ community or someone who is struggling with addiction or other mental illnesses?

Codependency Therapists
What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
