I specialize in treating trauma and chronic stress, in particular developmental trauma. I work holistically and incorporate the body-mind perspective in my work. I have completed the three-year (216 hour) training to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), which is a short-term naturalistic approach to healing trauma. I have also completed the two-year (144 hour) training in the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), which is a treatment approach that addresses developmental trauma, i.e. childhood trauma. I am currently studying Psychoanalysis at the Psychoanalytic Association of California (PINC).

You’ve been putting everything into your relationships and job since you can remember and you are TIRED. Tired of saying yes when you already have too much on your plate, tired of the exhausting task of managing other people’s lives, and just plain tired of not having enough room for YOU in your life. It’s been so long since you prioritized your own needs that you aren’t even sure what having time for yourself would look like or how to get it. Part of you is terrified that people won't like you if you start saying no to their requests and part of you even feels guilty delegating some of these tasks.

Change is challenging, whether one seeks it or it just happens. I help adult and adolescent clients deal with roadblocks to their desired changes, including difficulties with depression, anxiety, fears, addictions, obsessions and compulsions. I also help them cope with--and adjust to--unwanted change, including deaths of friends or family members, and job, relationship or pet losses. I work collaboratively with clients throughout their transitions, using the approaches and tools that are most useful to each individual.

Emotions can sometimes be difficult to bear-sadness, worries about yourself and others, fears, painful recurrent interactions and relationships. Working with an understanding professional to explore feelings and expectations about yourself and your relationships can be the key to clarifying troubling emotional states. These feelings can cause recurrent painful states, or push us toward repetitive or self-destructive behaviors. Exploring these feelings in a safe relationship can cause feelings about yourself and others to shift, opening to new ways of thinking and behaving. This allows for greater flexibility, enhanced creativity, a better relationship with yourself, and better connections and relationships.

Being in a long-term relationship can be difficult. Job stress, parenting, chronic illness, and past trauma all add to the disruption in a relationship. When one or more of these are at play, your energy is sapped and your ability to respond to your partner or kids with patience is limited. It's hard to keep yourself from just reacting, whether that reaction is to snap out or shut down. I know - from very personal experience - how it feels to be trapped, alone, and stuck in a relationship without any idea how to make it better. But now, there's a roadmap to making these issues better, and I'd like to share it with you.

I often use EMDR for trauma as it takes us beyond thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to address problematic reverberations in the body, which then frees us to be ourselves.
Welcome! If you are perusing this website, it is likely you are seeking meaningful change in your life. Perhaps you struggle with moods, relationship troubles, or traumas that negatively impact your life. As a psychologist, I have worked 16+ years serving many diverse clients, helping them to resolve problems, restore balance in their lives, feel whole again, and express themselves genuinely and skillfully in the world. My therapeutic approach is integrative in that I select from many treatment modalities to bring about positive change.

I have particular expertise in adult psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, LGBTQ+ issues, loss, and relationship problems.
We all have the potential to lead a fulfilling life. Difficult challenges may keep us from reaching that potential though, and we can find ourselves stuck in repetitive cycles of suffering. I offer individual psychotherapy and neurofeedback with a focus on the alleviation of symptoms through inner transformation. With close attention to the unresolved emotional pain and nervous system dysregulation that drive symptoms, I help clients find resilience within the difficulties they face. I draw from time-tested and evidence-based approaches suited to each client's unique needs.

Either way, you'll find me client-centered, compassionate, and non-judgemental. I'm a trauma recovery specialist (single incident or complex). I'm skilled in helping clients overcome depression, anxiety, grief, loss, relationship/parenting conflict, life transitions, & more.

If you are on this page, you are struggling with some kind of emotional issue such as stress, anxiety, or depression. I am here to help. I am particularly dedicated to helping people experiencing depression and trauma. I enjoy helping women strengthen their self esteem and assertiveness skills. Over the years clients have told me that they appreciate my relaxed style, and that I am easy to talk to. I also think that there is room for humor, as well as tears in therapy.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
