I have an expertise in working with Early Childhood aged children, children going through divorce, and Co- Parenting therapy.
As a child, adult, and couple's psychologist, my goal is to provide treatment with care and integrity. Children come in for school problems, behavioral problems or mood disturbances including anxiety. I provide support and coaching for parents along side the therapy for their children. Adults come to see me for desire to live with less pain, more peace. Couples engage in work to improve communication or manage a stress that is effecting the relationship. The therapeutic relationship is a powerful medium for change. Regardless of the reason for starting therapy, most people get tremendous relief.

Amidst the joy of being a new parent , one can feel bewilderment and self-doubt, sometimes desires and disappointments from childhood.
Major life events, both positive and negative, can require emotional adjustments that take us by surprise. Even desired life changes like parenthood, marriage, and graduation can lead to unexpected feelings. Current research on attachment confirms that humans are more resilient in the face of major life change and trauma when they feel understood and supported by another. I use psychotherapy and EMDR in my practice. In therapy I am direct, but I provide the empathy and compassion that we all need. My patients feel seen by me and in turn, seek out other fortifying relationships.

Using a client centered approach, I have helped countless number of women and couples navigate family planning, parenting and have helped couples connect.
Road to motherhood can be frustrating and challenging. Perhaps you are thinking about fertility treatments, IVF, IUI, or adoption. Maybe it has been a difficult road with miscarriages, unsuccessful egg retrievals or using a surrogate. It can be an overwhelming place to try to start a family, while encountering road bumps along the way. After the baby comes, we may experience exhaustion, sadness and even even a sense of isolation from our partner, friends and family. Growing a family takes a village.

Something in your life isn’t working. Maybe you feel disconnected, lost, stuck in your head. Maybe you’re having a hard time figuring out who you are or what you want, putting feelings into words, or getting other people to understand you. Maybe you’re frustrated with relationships, friendships, parenting , work, school, or creative projects. You want to feel less stressed, more balanced, more present, feel empowered to act instead of reacting. You are smart, capable, caring, and really making an effort, but it seems like things aren’t getting better. There's something getting in your way, and it's hard to figure it out.

Issues I address include relationship struggles (both traditional and non-traditional), problems associated with adolescence, anxiety, depression and parenting .
Making the decision to see a therapist is not an easy one, and it often takes a fair amount of courage to do so. For those who decide that therapy is appropriate, the outcome can be positive, bringing them more intimacy and fulfillment. Therapy provides the opportunity to improve communication, reduce stress, anxiety and anger, and improve the most important relationship we have....the one we have with ourselves.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
