My theoretical orientation is a combination of Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and mindfulness. What this means is we do spend time looking at our past, but also focus on what's not working in the present and building the skills you need in order to start making changes and to live a more fulfilling life.

I enjoy working with motivated people who feel stuck. Often they are in a transition or a loss. The loss can be great or small. (ex. death, break-up, job, disability/health, identity change, end-of-friendship) People who desire connection who often feel alone (even if they are close with others.) People who want to either strengthen or change their relationships whether it's in work, family, romantic, or platonic. Flawed perfectionists and people with imposter syndrome are always welcome!

You never imagined starting a family would be this way. You're overwhelmed, tired, and the loneliness is unbearable. Pregnancy, miscarriage, and becoming a new parent can leave you (or your partner) feeling depressed, anxious, and hopeless. Many women who are pregnant or a new parent suffer in silence; feeling like they can't tell anyone about what they're going though. Anxiety and depression do not have to control your life. I'm here to help and give you the tools you need to survive.

As an integrative and holistic therapist, I use shadow aspects of the individual and collective as tools for growth and understanding. I believe genuine healing comes from mindful awareness (being present to the experience of living), honoring emotions, cultural awareness, and curiosity. Relational approaches are at the foundation of my work, along with Depth Psychology (exploring how the unconscious shapes our thoughts and actions). When serviceable to explore, art and somatic based practices can be used, as these approaches offer rich sources of integration for artists and those in healing professions.

There’s always been this little voice inside you that whispers, “You’re a failure. You’re incompetent. You don’t deserve to be happy.” Logically you know that’s not true, but the critical voices won’t shut up. You take care of everyone – your kids, your partner, people at work- but you never take care of yourself. There’s no joy anymore. It’s exhausting just to get through the day. What’s even more frustrating is that you have so many personal and professional goals but you feel so emotionally paralyzed that you can’t even get started. This then reinforces those awful voices that tell you you’re a failure.

It seems like everyone else has it all together when you struggle to get even one thing right. Past hurts and disappointments remind you every day that you are lacking. You feel even more helpless when you try to get out of this mentality of lack and nothing works. Reminders on social media, along with family and friends, keep telling you that you don’t measure up. You’re exhausted and overwhelmed from even trying. “Why does it have to be so hard?” you wonder. You see the statement "You are enough" written everywhere, from notebooks to pictures on the wall. Even though you want to believe it, deep inside, you can't.

I enjoy working collaboratively with clients using Narrative therapy to help YOU become the AUTHOR of your own story. I support my clients in holding the pen to change their narrative and break free from any stories that no longer serve them. I enjoy international travel and learning about various cultural customs! This gives me a unique perspective to meet client's at the core of who they are. I invite clients to teach me about their world view and unique cultural experiences so I can be attuned to your needs.

Hi and welcome. Seeking help can feel overwhelming, but you’ve taken an important first step. I’ve been a therapist since 1987, beginning my career in substance and alcohol treatment. Since then, I’ve worked with individuals in recovery and have supported parents and children in reducing conflict and building harmonious relationships. These days, anxiety and stress seem to be the major issues facing most people. My clients usually feel relief early on in the process.
Whether you’re navigating family dynamics, substance recovery, life transitions, anxiety, trauma, or personal growth, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
