My therapeutic approach mainly focuses on helping my clients identify their strengths to help alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am a firm believer that our childhood experiences contribute to our beliefs, behavioral patterns, and selecting a romantic partner. Therapy is a process! To allow ourselves to be intimate and vulnerable with someone about our experiences and trauma can be daunting. As a therapist, it is my goal to help validate, create a safe environment and help understand aspects of lived experiences.

As a result, I am particularly drawn to attachment-based therapies; yet depending on the presenting issue, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, & mindfulness-based practices to tailor the needs of the people I serve.
I predominantly work with couples who experience relational challenges. While every couple is unique, the underlying patterns that stand in their way of experiencing love and connection are not. By making sense of their behavioral patterns driven by inner experiences, couples begin fostering a safe environment for deeper connections with themselves and others. To restore the love and intimacy, I incorporate Emotionally-Focused Therapy (an evidence-based couple therapy model). I also work with adult individuals with a variety of issues including trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, low self-esteem, and grief.

There comes a point in life when you feel stuck, unsure of how to move forward, untangled from all of the demands of your roles, life transitions, and expectations. Everything overwhelms you and you just want to run, hide, or give up. It feels like you are on the edge all the time, and you start questioning your life choices, self-worth, past, and future. It feels scary to go to someone and open your heart and soul with the hope that you’ll be understood and validated. It can also feel empowering to make the leap and become vulnerable in front of that stranger, whom you are going to call your therapist.

Many of us haven't had much experience with the kind of truly supportive relationships that make healing possible. A good therapeutic relationship - one that allows us to be fully ourselves while recognizing our unique potential - creates the optimal conditions for healing. I provide a place where you can feel safe to explore your most difficult feelings, to work through grief and loss, heal childhood wounds, relieve depression and anxiety, improve communication, increase self-esteem and develop more satisfying relationships. I work with individuals, couples, and groups, and I'm available for both in-person and virtual sessions.

Art, play, humor, sass. Mindfulness, spirituality, interconnectedness. Queer, sex positive, LGBTQIA+ safe space. Advocate of drug policy reform, therapeutic and intentional use of psychoactive substances, and harm reduction practices when appropriate. I offer trauma processing with the Comprehensive Resource Model, self-exploration through Art Therapy, and psychedelic integration. In fact, I believe trauma drives a majority of dysfunction regardless of the diagnosis. I target the pain perpetuating the behaviors you want to change; let's heal the wound, not redirect the symptom.

Seeking therapy takes courage and the prospect of talking to a stranger can be intimidating. Depression, anxiety, loss, and change can leave us feeling disconnected, confused. It seems to me that we're all trying to be connected in ways that support our intentions and goals. Sometimes those connections - to our Self, our partners, our family and friends - get muddy or lost. I see therapy as a safe place to explore unfamiliar, at times uncomfortable, territory in order to reach for greater understanding and connection to Self and others. My approach is humanistic/existential with an emphasis on depth and transpersonal psychology.

I work with individuals who find themselves stuck in unhelpful patterns, in disappointing relationships, and in their own internal turmoil. They long to live more authentically and to have more meaningful relationships, but have a hard time breaking out of their usual ways of relating to themselves and others. Using a strength-based approach, I seek to understand and appreciate the larger context of who you are, how you became you, and how your struggles developed so that we can understand the deeper source of your pain, support you in shifting out of vicious cycles, and help you live a more centered, conscious life.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
