Hello, my name is Natalia Luna, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, (LCSW858979). My approach to treatment is client-centered and collaborative. I try to break complex things down into palatable and digestible material and work with you on your personal goals, reach and express new potential. Working through difficult experiences and emotions can be challenging. It can be even harder to make desired changes in ones life when certain patterns have been established for so long. I work hard to ensure that my clients feel safe and supported throughout this process. By creating a comfortable and lighthearted environment, individuals, families, and couples are able to gain some reprieve from the difficulties they are experiencing. This allows change to begin to occur in the lives of my clients.

I believe that everybody has their own answers but there are times in our lives when we need assistance in discovering those answers. I take a straightforward approach to that exploration and help people advance in life. I specialize in couple's and family communication where assigning blame is replaced with a clearer understanding of each person and more effective ways to convey meaning. All relationships can be repaired if all members are willing to work towards that goal.

Aloha! Life is full of change and transition, and that means life is also full of times when we need extra support to manage the anxiety, depression, and/or distress that often comes along with it. If this sounds like you, you're in the right place. I like to think of myself as a treatment partner, not someone who sits silently while you figure out your own path forward. That means I take a holistic, collaborative approach to treatment, with a nod to evidence-based practices, such as CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused, as well as using EMDR and trauma-focused CPT for PTSD and other trauma-related symptoms.

I help people who feel stuck — in their careers, in their relationships, or just in life — find more clarity, connection, and joy. Many people I work with are successful on the outside but feel exhausted on the inside. They might be struggling with workaholism, feeling 'blah' about their relationships, dealing with the impact of trauma, or learning how to finally set boundaries that stick. They come to me feeling frustrated with talking about the same things over and over again but not feeling any better.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
