I combine my expertise as a neurologist with neuroscientific, brain-based and somatic therapies that regulate the nervous system in order to treat physical, mental and emotional symptoms related to chronic stress or trauma.
Many of the common symptoms people experience are actually related to chronic stress or trauma. This is not recognized by most physicians, so patients are often prescribed multiple medications and referred to many subspecialists, without any real relief of their symptoms. I help patients identify if their symptoms are actually related to stress or trauma, and use brain-based and somatic-based therapies to treat headaches, chronic pain, digestive problems, sleep problems, dizziness, fainting, anxiety, panic attacks or unexplained neurological symptoms (visual changes, non-epileptic events or conversion disorder).

I love working with people to help them build a deeper relationship with themselves – their inner world and emotional core. By learning how to connect with and attend to what lies within, clients develop the skills to lean into personal challenges, transform them, and understand their deep yearnings in the process. In turn, clients become empowered and build lives that are aligned with who they are and what they want for themselves. I strongly feel that therapy is a collaborative process, and the “work” a client engages with in their day to day life is also so important.

"The wound is the place where the light enters you." (Rumi) Suffering is universal. Our suffering invites us to turn within, pay close attention and become more intimate with who we are. Turning within can initiate a process of healing and transformation. Attending to "what is really going on" with a skilled companion offers safe passage through difficult spaces, time to slow down, ways to connect with parts of ourselves that need love and attention. We gently explore: feelings, situations, pain, dilemmas, trauma, longings and dreams. Through collaborative conversation and care, we gain insight and create new ways of being.

Many of us are deeply in touch with the life we want to be living, and the version of ourselves we want to be living it. Yet over and over again, there is challenge in following through - or even sabotage of the very things we've been working towards. For those who want to meet the saboteurs, and get in touch with the answers that dwell innately inside of you, it takes a courageous look into the subconscious. That is where hidden beliefs and programming are secretly running the show. By getting to know these subconscious parts of ourselves, we can free ourselves from the destructive habits that may have been necessary long ago.

I draw from evidence-based client-centered modalities including Transpersonal Psychology, Ecopsychology, Internal Family Systems, Gestalt, Family Systems and Somatic approaches to healing.
I view therapy as a collaboration where therapist and client work together to connect with an inner healing intelligence and unconditional positive regard within each of us. We can then tend to trauma, grief, resentments, and limiting beliefs that are contributing to symptoms. With humility and reverence for the resilience, courage and vulnerability it can take to heal ourselves, I create a nonjudgemental, kind and compassionate space with room for humor, absurdity and fun.

Welcome. I approach therapy with a compassionate and nonviolent orientation. With my diverse background in somatic and body awareness practices, I often ask clients to sense their bodies to learn from their innate wisdom. This is not the only way to explore oneself, but it is a way. Somatic work is not always the best path to take, and other methods, such as psychodynamic and depth psychology through talking to express unspoken experiences, thinking through challenges that arise, or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), are needed.

I am trauma-informed and experiential in the work I do with clients, incorporating psychodrama, & sensorimotor somatic techniques.
As your therapist, my priority is to be curious with you. My approach is built upon genuine interest in understanding my clients. I'm somatic in practice and love helping folks reconnect to their body and integrity. I teach self-leadership, body-awareness, and release. I want to help you explore what's true for you and let go of the rest. I have 15 years of experience in mental health treatment settings and I specialize in eating disorder recovery, trauma & PTSD. With improved attunement to the body, self-preservation is less instinctual and self-awareness can emerge that promotes compassion rather than self-criticism.

I am dedicated to your somatic and mental wellness but can't do it without your willingness to let go of beliefs that stopped working long ago.
With 37 years focused on recovery in Codependency and Addiction, most people seek my services due to suffering the affects of being in relationship a Narcissist or Sociopath. When you are ready, you can choose a completely new way of feeling, thinking and acting that comes directly from your truth, which I can teach you to find. I also work with people who have had Near Death Experiences, whose numbers now count in the millions. Most NDE experiencers need a safe, supportive and nonjudgmental ally to help make sense of the profound journey they have found themselves on. An aware heart creates a new earth for that person. For real.

Beyond my master's degree, I have received training in three somatic trauma interventions.
If you don't know how to 'fix it' yourself, why not call a professional? We all know how to call a plumber or electrician or landlord, why is it so hard to call a therapist? Or even a friend or partner? First, let me say, nothing is broken, YOU are not broken. You want more out of your life and relationships and you're not sure how to get there. You've lost your way in more ways than one, and your connection to self and others may be shakey at best. Maybe you feel stuck or like no one really understands. Together we can rebuild your sense of connection to yourself and others, dare I say, even a sense of aliveness and joy.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
