I work with relationship struggles, pre-
marital
counseling, individuals struggling with divorce, children and adolescent issues, low self esteem, and dating.
When you are feeling depressed or anxious, you have a real reason to want to be heard. You communicate through words and body language. A child communicates through play and art. Whichever way you communicate, I am dedicated to hear what you have to say and gain a real understanding of what is going on. Together, we can explore your uniqueness and find strength in that. Whether it is a family issue or a personal one, taking care of yourself is a priority. I believe that the basic foundation of therapy is a good relationship between therapist and client.
Not accepting new clients

I am a clinical member of the California Association of
Marriage
and Family Therapy (CAMFT).
I believe we all have the capacity to foster change and improve our lives. But before we can do that we need to know who we are.
Who are you really?
Which parts of yourself are markers from your past? Which are new?
What is working for you and what is working against you?
As a compassionate therapist, I work collaboratively to help you discover your authentic self and live to your full potential.

Given that I am a Licensed
Marriage
and Family Therapist, Clinical Psychologist and Psychoanalyst, one might deduce that I am very intelligent and really good at what I do. Of course, there are other possibilities like I'm a glutton for punishment or just another ordinary obsessive over-achiever. The point is that credentials and education are but one important factor that go into making a good psychotherapist. I strive to NOT make assumtions, but to listen, understand, respect, be sensitive yet objective and flexible, tailoring the treatment to the needs of my patient instead of the other way around.

I'm a Psychologist and
Marriage
& Family Therapist.
I want to help people discover, think about, give meaning to, and find compassion for, alienated parts of themselves that are repressed and forbidden, containing unmet needs, historic conflicts, and unfulfilled dreams. Reunion with these parts can help people better understand their current behaviors, thoughts, and feelings and develop options for changing old patterns in their relationships with themselves, partners, and work that were once effective defenses against psychological pain. Therapy helps us become more fully alive, creative, connected to others, and free to be ourselves with less, and perhaps more realistic, fear-- individually, in our families, cultures, and society.

I specialize in issues related to past trauma, self esteem, multigenerational family conflict, life transitions including
marriage
and coparenting, and mood disorders including generalized anxiety and depression.
Trying to find a therapist in this oversaturated market is challenging, to say the least. Therapy should be personalized to each individual client's strengths and challenges. With that in mind, I believe in taking a collaborative approach. Whether adjusting to current life stressors or coping with past trauma, I seek to empower individuals, new parents, couples, and families to change negative communication and behaviors and build on existing strengths.

If you are seeking couples counseling, I can assist you and your partner with intimacy and communication during whatever stage of your relationship (pre-
marital
/unmarried, newly weds, married for years).
Congratulations for taking the first step towards change! I utilize many methods with clients during sessions (expressive arts therapy, narrative therapy, trauma focused therapy, positive psychology, videos, worksheets, etc.) Change does take work but it can happen! I sometimes give homework to help my clients achieve their goals. I mainly work with adults (18+) as individuals and as couples (couples counseling includes a parent and adult child, adult siblings, or intimate partnerships). Whether it's anxiety, trauma, stress, or a mixture of things, I look forward to working with you!

As a licensed
Marriage
and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience in this field, I firmly believe that therapy is a valuable gift individuals can give to themselves. Since the most important relationship one has is with oneself, a healthy self-relationship translates to healthy interpersonal connections. My passion lies in helping individuals achieve their best lives. In a warm and empathetic therapeutic environment, individuals can look within and explore their thoughts and feelings. Healing happens within the context of a therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist.

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” ― Thomas A. Edison talking about his attempts to invent the light bulb. At times we feel that we are failing. In our relationships, our jobs, day-to-day struggles or life itself. However, often our so-called "failed attempts" are crucial steps towards increased well-being and healing. In more than 18 years as a
marital
and family therapist I have been continuously humbled by clients' creativity, resilience and curiosity in bringing about that healing.

How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
