The thought about talking to a stranger about what’s going on is terrifying. When the process involves an honest conversation about symptoms, family problems, and addiction or other “shameful” family secrets, it can keep anyone from healing. You were taught to keep it to yourself and not cause trouble. To not air family secrets and that emotions are dramatic and useless. Especially the biggest of all- grief. There is nobody that gets to escape grief in this process. It's a myth that any of it has to be painful or overwhelming. And struggling with feelings or needing to heal doesn't make you weak.Nobody taught you how to do this.

Are you feeling tired of struggling with anxiety, overwhelming stress, low self-confidence, or negative thinking? Are you not feeling like yourself these days, or have you been ignoring the anger, fear, and resentment building inside of you so long you don’t even know who you are anymore? Or perhaps you’re arguing more intensely with your partner, feeling emotionally battered and bruised, questioning whether you’ll ever be heard or understood. Maybe you feel stuck and hopeless about it, and you’re thinking it’s time to get help because you want to give it a real chance with a real therapist who knows how to turn it all around.

With 23+ years of experience as a seasoned therapist, I provide a "sauna for your feelings," a safe space and container for you to step away from your life to reflect, release and re-align. My goal is to facilitate the identification of difficult thoughts, feelings, and past experiences that prevent us from being comfortable with who we would like to be, what we want, and the kind of relationships that we want to have with others. I find that people who fully invest in themselves have the greatest rate of success.

Welcome. Are you ready for the work necessary to make real, enduring change? Do you have a troubling personal issue or suffer from general dissatisfaction? My orientation is to focus on the unconscious, the elusive essence of the problem. A powerful process unfolds when change occurs at this level of the mind. This opens the space for authentic personal transformation.

I am a Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy/Certified Sex Therapist/Author of "The 4 Intimacy Styles" and "The Dr. Viviana Method for Intimate Reconnection" (online program for couples). My therapeutic approach is brief and solution-oriented, so I do recognize the importance of how my clients' problems have come about, but I place a higher value on offering my clients new and fresh solutions. I take into account what clients have tried in the past and help them to come up with changes that will be long-lasting and efficient.

Hispanic and Latino Therapists
What makes a Hispanic and Latino therapist effective?
An effective Hispanic and Latino therapist can combine a culturally sensitive lens with proven therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). They may have an understanding of cultural attitudes to therapy, including potential stigma, and can help a client navigate those concerns. Some clients may also appreciate a therapist who is bilingual and is comfortable conversing with the client in both English and Spanish. Languages spoken are indicated on a therapist’s directory profile.
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
A culturally sensitive therapist is respectful and considerate of all groups, and may have specific expertise with individuals of a certain ethnicity. These considerations can help a client feel understood and can improve the therapeutic alliance. While some people think highlighting race and ethnicity could promote stereotypes and bias, most agree that knowledge about cultural differences enhances the alliance between therapist and client.
How can I recognize a therapist who has expertise working with Hispanic and Latino clients?
Successful therapy depends a great deal on the relationship between client and therapist. Start by asking the therapist about their overall approach to therapy. You may then wish to ask about the therapist’s educational background and any additional training in cultural sensitivity that they have undertaken.
How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Hispanic and Latino clients?
Ask a potential therapist whether they've worked with individuals who share this background or whether they’ve worked in these communities. If so, you may wish to ask them to elaborate on ways that they feel especially prepared to work with Hispanic and Latino clients. If they have not worked with such clients, they may know someone who has and be able to make a referral.
Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Hispanic and Latino therapists?
The directory of Hispanic and Latino therapists includes providers who have identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. When the number of therapists near you who identify as Hispanic and Latino is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
