For over 25 years I have been practicing an integrative therapeutic approach with clients, drawing from psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, and Gottman Couples Therapy to the counterproductive ways in which we attempt to lower anxiety. In this way, individuals and couples experience more lasting relief. We will look at how past experiences may affect current ones, helping you to make choices based on true needs and desires, lower reactivity in relationships, and begin to resolve attachment injuries or trauma.

Hi! I'm Klara Knypinski. Feeling overwhelmed with decision-making and relationships can be exhausting. You want to build authentic connections and feel secure in your decisions, but you often find yourself stuck in patterns of anxiety, overthinking, and overworking. Constantly questioning the "best move" keeps you paralyzed, preventing you from living the authentic and fulfilling life you dream of. You're ready for a change and seeking support to find your truth and break free from these patterns.

I believe positive changes happen when a client is committed to learning and growing. Clients who want to expand and enrich themselves through therapy, no matter what their diagnosis or life challenges are, are the clients with which I work well.and see effective changes.

I specialize in childhood trauma recovery. I can help you understand and heal from the profound effects of toxic family dynamics. Childhood trauma comes in many forms, from the big life-altering events to the more subtle yet equally impactful experiences like emotional neglect, parental mental illness (narcissism/borderline personality disorder), and parental alcoholism. These experiences wire and shape ones perception, but do not have to define you. I can help you rewire yourself and overcome anxieties that are holding you back in order to reclaim your self, your voice, and build healthier more fulfilling relationships.

What keeps you awake at night? Clients come to me to discuss their unfulfilled needs. I work with clients who are searching for answers about anxiety and depression, as well as how they define why they are in this place in their lives. I like to start with when is the last time that you felt happy and positive. Then we go back and unwind the circumstances in your life and also forward to what you can be now and in the future to live the life you desire. I want you to understand the reasons for the underlying pain so you can make changes.

To be 'human' is such a simple and yet such a deep and miraculous concept. Suffering is a natural part of human experience and emotional avoidance is one of the main causes of psychological problems. Avoiding negative emotions may bring you short term relief but in the long term it will end up with pain. When we accept a negative emotion, it tends to lose its destructive power. Therapy is a healing journey where the alliance between client and therapist plays an extremely important role in the process of acceptance.

Would you feel more at ease knowing that your child has a private space and dedicated time to process their feelings? Parents often come to me when they notice that their child has become disengaged or frozen. With school pressure, family system changes, uncertainty with peers, and the exposure of fearful media, it makes sense to me why your child may be feeling overwhelmed. I work with children through young adulthood, providing trauma-informed psychodynamic therapy. My approach is warm, compassionate, and non judgmental. I help my clients explore their inner worlds with curiosity and care, rather than shame.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
