Our world's been shaken up in ways we've never imagined. We're understandably anxious, trying to cope. Jobs, family , illness. How do we hold it together? Are you looking for someone to talk to who can walk through this labyrinth with you? I specialize in trauma, perhaps I can help. You may be having problems with your partner, kids or parents-- most significantly with yourself. If your pain is manifesting as panic attacks or addictions, if there's grief or you're in parent/child conflicts at any age, therapy may help. I work with individuals and couples to enhance communication, creativity and a core sense of self.

I'm a licensed clinical psychologist who places greatest value in establishing an empathic, warm, & respectful environment (while modeling firm, healthy boundaries) for clients & their families. Over the last 7 years I've treated adults, children, teens, couples, families, & groups in a private practice setting. My strength-based, collaborative approach drawing on numerous techniques (CBT, DBT, Fam Systems, etc.) helps clients get the most from therapy & allows tailoring our work to your needs. When beneficial and appropriate, I work to foster a "team approach," encouraging good communication w/other members of a client's daily life (i.e. other practitioners/physicians, family , teachers, etc.).

Welcome to my practice. If you are considering psychotherapy for yourself, you and your partner, your family , or a loved one, you may not know what to expect and may be feeling apprehensive, fearful, or overwhelmed. Perhaps you are looking to resolve a particular conflict or trauma in your life, to make sense of a specific situation, and/or to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and any problems or difficulties you may be having. Maybe you are feeling unsatisfied or stuck, not where you imagined you would be - where you think you should be or want to be.

These include a family systems approach, humanistic, cognitive behavioral, conflict mediation, spirituality and Jewish thought.
When you are feeling depressed or anxious, you have a real reason to want to be heard. You communicate through words and body language. A child communicates through play and art. Whichever way you communicate, I am dedicated to hear what you have to say and gain a real understanding of what is going on. Together, we can explore your uniqueness and find strength in that. Whether it is a family issue or a personal one, taking care of yourself is a priority. I believe that the basic foundation of therapy is a good relationship between therapist and client.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with specialized training in sexual compulsivity and issues of sexual health and integrity, and am competent working with both individuals and couples.
In my experience, approaching treatment with the dual aim of increasing insight and self-awareness as well as behavior modification and tangible goals yields the best results. Ram Dass said, "Remember your Buddha nature... and your social security number." I strive to offer both reflective as well as pragmatic resources. If we decide to work together, we will identify the specific issues that brought you to seek help and keep your therapy focused on these issues. We all get stuck, whether it be in unwanted behaviors, an unhealthy relationship, emotional ruts, or just stuck in ourselves. Let's talk and see if we might be a match.

Do you find yourself bottling things up because you fear others wouldn't understand? Does the anger leave you feeling stuck? Does it feel so unmanageable that it starts to leak into other parts of your life: difficulty concentrating on your tasks, missing in action with those you love, or going to sleep at night feeling alone? Periods of transition will come and go in life. It's how we handle them that matters. Counseling can help! For more info, visit my Yelp Page: Nicole Nowparvar, LCSW.

Having worked as a psychotherapist, attorney, and mediator, I am uniquely qualified to help people facing business and family dilemmas with emotional, financial and legal consequences.
The goal of psychotherapy is to make you stronger and more focused, so you can solve the problems that baffle and frustrate you today. You don't have to face alone the issues and situations that you are not sure how to master. Victory may find you at last if you keep hammering away with the same old hammer. Or success may come to stay in your life if you change your strategy entirely. Which path should you take? That is the mystery of your life today, and I would like to help you find the answer.

"What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" Mary Oliver's compelling question suggests that perhaps now is the time to give yourself the gift of being you--authentically and with joy. Perhaps you struggle with your relationships, your sense of purpose, your emotions, your family , your sexuality. Together we can explore your thoughts and feelings, the history that produced them, and the changes you can make to feel more fully alive--to feel seen, to feel understood, to know that you are worthy of love and able to make deep connections with others.

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” ― Thomas A. Edison talking about his attempts to invent the light bulb. At times we feel that we are failing. In our relationships, our jobs, day-to-day struggles or life itself. However, often our so-called "failed attempts" are crucial steps towards increased well-being and healing. In more than 18 years as a marital and family therapist I have been continuously humbled by clients' creativity, resilience and curiosity in bringing about that healing.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
