I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with specialized training in sexual compulsivity and issues of sexual health and integrity, and am competent working with both individuals and couples.
In my experience, approaching treatment with the dual aim of increasing insight and self-awareness as well as behavior modification and tangible goals yields the best results. Ram Dass said, "Remember your Buddha nature... and your social security number." I strive to offer both reflective as well as pragmatic resources. If we decide to work together, we will identify the specific issues that brought you to seek help and keep your therapy focused on these issues. We all get stuck, whether it be in unwanted behaviors, an unhealthy relationship, emotional ruts, or just stuck in ourselves. Let's talk and see if we might be a match.

As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience in this field, I firmly believe that therapy is a valuable gift individuals can give to themselves. Since the most important relationship one has is with oneself, a healthy self-relationship translates to healthy interpersonal connections. My passion lies in helping individuals achieve their best lives. In a warm and empathetic therapeutic environment, individuals can look within and explore their thoughts and feelings. Healing happens within the context of a therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist.

I've helped clients create goals to manage mood disorders, family relational problems, substance abuse issues, and to create coping skills to manage every day stressors.
Everyone deserves the support they need in order to thrive and be their best self. In today's world, it is easy to feel overwhelmed, stressed, and stuck. Therapy is a tool to address those feelings and promote positive change and growth. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to be heard and supported, and I strive to provide that experience in therapy, whether you feel like you need support to address a current stressor or have a desire to change long-standing patterns.

I take time to look at three integral aspects of my clients' lives: social relationships with friends and family , career, and love and intimacy.
Throughout life, we are faced with many challenges...some more severe than others, some harder to overcome, and some which we ignore for the moment. When we choose not to face our challenges, it can negatively impact our true being. My experience includes working with those struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, substance abuse, trauma, parent-child relationships, crisis intervention, just to name a few.

I'm a licensed clinical psychologist who places greatest value in establishing an empathic, warm, & respectful environment (while modeling firm, healthy boundaries) for clients & their families. Over the last 7 years I've treated adults, children, teens, couples, families, & groups in a private practice setting. My strength-based, collaborative approach drawing on numerous techniques (CBT, DBT, Fam Systems, etc.) helps clients get the most from therapy & allows tailoring our work to your needs. When beneficial and appropriate, I work to foster a "team approach," encouraging good communication w/other members of a client's daily life (i.e. other practitioners/physicians, family , teachers, etc.).

I am a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT).
I believe we all have the capacity to foster change and improve our lives. But before we can do that we need to know who we are. Who are you really? Which parts of yourself are markers from your past? Which are new? What is working for you and what is working against you? As a compassionate therapist, I work collaboratively to help you discover your authentic self and live to your full potential.

An ideal client for my treatment mode would be someone who is either motivated for refinement of spirit, or would possess enough intelligence and wisdom to be able to gain enough insight into the nature of their condition so that they would embrace expert intervention with a degree of trust in harmony with adequate judgment into the need for treatment. He or she may engage in therapy alone, but where family history of emotional challenges exist, they would consider family therapy if all parties consent.

Being able to prioritize your mental health does not have to come at the cost of yourself or your family .
Everyone expects you to be the “perfect” mother, the perfect “wife”, the “perfect” person, I’ve been there. Through my own journey I’ve learned that I can’t and don’t have to be perfect. What I can do is become a better mother, a better wife and a better person. Don’t try for the unattainable goal of perfection, instead make your life better by recognizing your own abilities and weaknesses and emphasizing your own strengths while dealing with the weaknesses. Being a person is a balancing act, finding that balance is something that can be learned. Our goal together is to make your life better.

I have been in clinical practice for over 30 years and I am trained in psychodynamic as well as family systems therapy. My focus has been on primary relationships as a means of understanding current functioning. Each person comes with their own story to be understood in time. The addition to my work has been mindfulness meditation which helps us to be in the present moment in our lives without judgement. In therapy it can address the underlying causes of suffering while at the same time, help depression, anxiety. pain, stress and trauma. I am privileged to facilitate your journey of healing.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
