As a result of my academic and clinical history, I have become most proficient in treatment of both clinical disorders such as psychosis, manic depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders co-occurring with substance abuse and associated forensic issues that may generalize to children and older adults.
An ideal client for my treatment mode would be someone who is either motivated for refinement of spirit, or would possess enough intelligence and wisdom to be able to gain enough insight into the nature of their condition so that they would embrace expert intervention with a degree of trust in harmony with adequate judgment into the need for treatment. He or she may engage in therapy alone, but where family history of emotional challenges exist, they would consider family therapy if all parties consent.

My sessions are geared toward helping patients change in ways which will enhance their lives. By understanding the obstacles to change helps to build conscientious strategies which we together can employ. I am a stronge proponent of necessary out of office experiences "homework" which requires my patients to be aware of their emotional reactions which block new behaviors. In other words, greater awareness must take place outside of our sessions as well as within. I believe in handing patients the reigns to their own lives as I believe therapy must be about empowerment throughout all stages of adult life.

Perhaps you’re here looking for a therapist here because someone told you, whether warmly or angrily: “You should get some help!” What you probably heard - and what they may have meant - was: you need to change. Unlike many, I don’t believe people need to change. The way I see it and how I work is to show my clients how to expand themselves - by adding in more useful and productive ways to think and act than they’ve done before. This results in my clients actually feeling better and functioning better. I work in a respectful and growth-filled manner, sometimes suggesting to my clients questions to elicit their self-knowledge.

My name is Savannah and I want to thank you for considering me as a partner on your journey to inner growth, safety, and peace. Psychotherapy is an endeavor that can feel uncomfortable at times, but together we can work to troubleshoot your "hang-ups" and insecurities to smooth out your path ahead. Do you find that no matter how hard you try, you continue to gravitate towards situations that cause you emotional pain, that leave you feeling exposed and vulnerable? Do you wonder why other people in your life seem so happy but you feel like you just can't "get it right?"

I'm Dr. Nancy Do, PsyD, welcome. Do you find yourself in a similar, unhealthy pattern or relational dynamic you are unable to break away from? Are you suffering in silence? Do you feel societal, cultural, and familial pressures to be perfect, successful, thin, have it all figured out etc.? Do you feel alone, even in a room full of people? Are you feeling overwhelmed by life? Do you struggle to set boundaries or assert yourself? Suffering and struggle are a part of the human experience. We tend to avoid or numb our pain, but we need to accept it, learn to navigate and better manage it, and recognize that the only way out is through.

You may be a high-functioning adult who looks “put together” on the outside but feels overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally drained, or disconnected on the inside. Perhaps you struggle with anxiety, low mood, burnout, negative thoughts, or relationship patterns that no longer serve you. You want relief from constant overthinking and emotional exhaustion. I especially enjoy working with adults navigating depression, anxiety, and trauma who are motivated to grow and ready to invest in themselves. You’re seeking meaningful change, not quick fixes, and want to feel more grounded, confident, and emotionally balanced.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck. Perhaps you’re living with depression, ADHD, OCD, or grief. Maybe you’re navigating difficult relationships, or carrying the effects of childhood or medical trauma. Some of my clients are cancer patients or survivors working through the emotional impact of diagnosis and treatment. Others are immigrants seeking evaluations to support their legal cases. I also work with couples, using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help partners reconnect, feel heard, and rebuild trust. Most of my clients want to feel lighter, calmer, and more in control of their lives.

FAQ - About Geriatric Therapy
What can a geriatric psychologist help with?
Geriatric therapists specialize in the cognitive and neurological challenges that often accompany aging, including dementia, memory loss, and age-related cognitive decline. They also address the psychological conditions that frequently co-occur with these issues, such as depression, anxiety, and grief. Geriatric therapists and psychologists are trained to assess cognitive functioning, identify symptoms that may warrant further evaluation, and conduct or refer for formal neurological assessment when needed. In many cases, geriatric therapists also work closely with medical doctors to manage a client's overall health, and they may support caregivers and family members navigating the demands of caring for an aging loved one.

Why might someone seek a geriatric psychologist?
Someone might seek a geriatric therapist when they or a loved one begins experiencing cognitive or neurological changes and is unsure whether those changes are a normal part of aging or something that requires clinical attention. A geriatric therapist can help connect families with appropriate next steps. They are also commonly sought following a new diagnosis, when clients and families are working to understand what that diagnosis means practically and emotionally, and what to expect as a condition progresses. When seeking a therapist, it can be helpful to consider whether a clinician with a stronger psychotherapy focus or one with more of a social work orientation, who can help connect clients with assisted living or medical resources, would be the better fit.

What type of therapy might a geriatric therapists specialize in?
Geriatric therapist often combine psychotherapy with psychoeducation, helping clients and their families understand cognitive and neurological conditions and what to expect as they progress. For clients experiencing anxiety or depression alongside cognitive decline, therapists may draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or mindfulness-based approaches. For clients with dementia specifically, therapists may be trained in specialized modalities such as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST), which is designed to preserve cognitive functioning.

Can geriatric psychologists help people who suffer from dementia?
Yes, and this is a core area of geriatric psychology. Therapists specializing in dementia can work directly with clients on memory loss and cognitive functioning, while also addressing conditions that commonly co-occur, such as depression and anxiety. They can provide caregivers with objective assessments of a client's functioning and disease progression, and are typically well-versed in community resources available to dementia patients and their families.
