Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy form the foundation of my work but I draw from many modalities.
Are you finding yourself stuck in the same old patterns and behaviors, even though you're aware of what drives them and where they come from? You are not alone! Insight is powerful and important, but it's only a piece of the puzzle. In our work together we will combine deep and curious inquiry, with behavioral and solution-focused techniques. We will be co-travelers on a journey where you are the expert of your own experience. Not only will we work to support your healing but go beyond to help you to envision and build a rich, meaningful, value-driven life.

I take a cognitive-behavioral approach to helping clients. Within that framework, I've trained in traditional CBT for a variety of problems, ACT ( Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), mindfulness-based treatments, trauma-focused treatments (Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Processing Therapy), and treatment for chronic depression (CBASP). Using this knowledge, I can create a treatment plan that fits your needs and goals. I specialize in mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders, trauma, insomnia, and psychosis.

I incorporate strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT ) while basing my therapeutic orientation from a holistic/person-centered perspective.
I am located in greater Los Angeles. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I follow an integrated approach to the therapeutic process. I have special interests with working with teens and their families. In addition to family therapy, individual therapy for both teens and adults, I also provide group therapy for parents at Beverly Mental Health Service. The goal of the group is to share parents’ concerns about their children, provide guidance and process struggles as parents when it comes to manage challenging behaviors of their children, and create a community for parents to support each other.

By examining our triggers, emotions and beliefs, we become aware of why we act the way we do and how we can substitute our unwanted behaviours for those that are more positive and beneficial for us and the people we interact with.
I believe you have the power and ability to change what you don't want; the question is, "are you willing?" your life is a result of choices and circumstances. Make a different choice, and you'll get a different result. You have the right to say "no" to what you don't want, and you have the right to say "yes" to what you do want. It's okay to tell yourself you're enough as is, it's okay to tell yourself that you are worthy of someone else's time, it's okay to tell yourself that you deserve happiness. And it's okay to be unapologetically yourself.

To be 'human' is such a simple and yet such a deep and miraculous concept. Suffering is a natural part of human experience and emotional avoidance is one of the main causes of psychological problems. Avoiding negative emotions may bring you short term relief but in the long term it will end up with pain. When we accept a negative emotion, it tends to lose its destructive power. Therapy is a healing journey where the alliance between client and therapist plays an extremely important role in the process of acceptance .

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
