My approach to therapy is psychodynamic, psychoanalytic and relational.
I believe that the power of speaking freely with an attentive and invested listener about the ways you wish to be unburdened cannot be underestimated. I offer you a place to work it through. I am an active and engaged therapist, I offer you my mind and I will climb in to the trenches with you.

Welcome. If you’re feeling anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed, or caught in painful repeating patterns in your relationships, therapy can help you better understand what’s beneath these experiences and create space for something different. Many people come in unsure of exactly what they need, only knowing that something isn’t working in their lives or relationships. Others arrive with more specific goals. Wherever you are starting, we’ll pay attention to the patterns shaping your experience, explore what keeps them in place, and work toward greater freedom, meaning, aliveness, and creativity.

Therapy is an opportunity. When familiar ways of being in the world no longer prove useful, therapy offers the possibility of discovering aspects of ourselves that can help us lead a richer, more fulfilling life. I offer both short-term treatment and long-term intensive treatment depending on your needs. Working to develop a safe relationship we can explore together how past events and patterns of relating to others contribute to difficulties with the goal of improving relationships and issues at work, and to help you achieve a more stable and fulfilling sense of who you are in the world.

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process. It thrives on curiosity, creative play, strong questions, and most importantly, close listening and full attention. Being present, open, and available are critical to a successful outcome. Working together, clients and I explore areas of challenge and what changes or outcomes are desired. Clients develop a deeper understanding of and empathy for themselves. They become more creatively engaged in the direction of their lives. It is an exciting and at times frightening undertaking. One that brings with it a heightened sense of aliveness.

I am a psychoanalytic relational therapist who believes that healing happens through a process of deep diving to address what’s underneath your symptoms and suffering.
Have you ever asked yourself these questions - Who am I? Who are my people? Do I belong? Why do I keep repeating the same patterns in relationships? Why do I have trouble standing up or speaking up for myself? Why can't I give to myself the way I give to others? Perhaps you seem fine on the outside, but struggle silently on the inside. I can help you explore these questions and find a deeper sense of connectedness to yourself and others. I can help you connect more with your body, emotions and experience, instead of living mostly in your head. I can help you feel more like a human being, instead of a “human doing."

I am looking clients who are interested in ongoing personal growth to help with their relationships, deepen their connections with others and find meaning in their lives. It could be through work, family, leisure, any venue. I am also quite skilled in helping those who have had trauma in their early lives, due to dysfunctional families, addiction, or abuse. I listen to what people want and I have 20 years of helping people find it. I work collaberatively, with compassion, tolerance without judgment and in a practical manner. Due to my life experience, work experience, and my own personal growth I am able to help you grow.

Life will present us now and then with the unexpected.  This clearly is a time of major change for all of us. Not all of this is new nor is it novel. Even in the most normal of times we often do experience unwelcome events, the loss of a loved one, disability, addiction, economic insecurity, loneliness. To live is perhaps also to suffer. But we need not suffer alone. You will find me to be a compassionate, capable psychotherapist. Working together, I can help you to live a happier, more contented and fulfilling life. So then, where are you now? Where would you like to go from here? Would you like to create a new narrative?

My work is grounded in Embodied Depth Psychotherapy, a relational and mindfulness-based approach. I work with individuals and couples who may feel anxious, emotionally stuck, disconnected in relationships, burned out by high-pressure environments, or uncertain about who they are becoming. Many appear successful and capable outwardly while privately struggling with self-doubt, loneliness, relationship patterns, or a persistent sense that something important in their life needs attention.

Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, depression, or difficulty in relationships. Maybe you're navigating a life transition, grief, or sexual challenges. Maybe it's hard to connect to yourself or maybe you have a lot of insight into where your patterns stem from - and yet somehow, they keep repeating. Together, we can explore what is happening for you in new ways which can bring insight, understanding, and real relief. This process can support you in accessing more authenticity and self-trust, and allow for more intimacy and connection in your relationships with yourself and others.

People with complex trauma are often at the mercy of their nervous systems. When something in the present reminds them of past traumatic experiences, their bodies and minds go immediately into self-protection mode. Whether that’s fighting, fleeing, freezing, submitting, or seeking attachment, it often feels like their reaction happens automatically and they’re not in control of it. In addition, because many people with childhood trauma were told when growing up that their feelings weren’t real, they may even feel protective of their reactivity; it’s as if having curiosity about the reaction somehow says their feelings aren’t valid.

I am an analytic candidate at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California.
Life can be difficult. Sometimes we feel stuck. It may be that recent events, difficult feelings or relationship challenges are making it clear that some things are not working. It could be that stress, worry or confusion have felt overwhelming and lead to unhelpful patterns with yourself and the others you care most about. Within the frameworks of relational psychodynamic and somatic psychotherapy I offer a warm, supportive presence so you can explore whats difficult, hone your strengths and become more fully yourself.

My training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy. However this is only short-hand for working with you in a deep and resonant way. I primarily work with adults and children but also treat dyads (parents and their children, friends, and couples). We will take into account the ways your past has shaped the present. While, at the same time concentrating on how you are living life now in relation to your family, your friends, your workplace, your community, and of course your innermost self.

I use a neurodevelopmental and psychoanalytic perspective that is informed by the impacts of society and culture.
Creativity can be foundational to positive and longstanding change. We come into the world with an innate skill to solve the many problems that arise during development. Sometimes these solutions bring up new challenges or get in the way of our relationships and our ability to enjoy life. I work with children, adults, elders, and couples who are struggling to adapt to a stressful world. By developing a trusting relationship where exploration is welcomed and analyzed, we are able to find new ways of functioning, new solutions to our interpersonal conflicts, and improve our ability to flexibly adapt to our changing world.

Perhaps you have felt you do not fit in somehow in your family, your community, or the larger world. Perhaps you have been navigating multiple cultural identities inside. Perhaps you have felt like your spirit is tender and the struggles of your life are too much to bare. Perhaps you have felt that other people have figured it out and you have been comparing your insides to other people's outsides. And you have felt alone, maybe scared, and confused. And now you want someone to help you be with it all. Now you want a compassionate heart and a steady presence to navigate these emotional terrains.

Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, frustrated, or stuck? I can help you find ways to cope with uncomfortable feelings so that you can feel more balance in your daily life and more fulfilling relationships and experiences. Many of us rely on friends and family to help us work through problems, but sometimes our friends or family are part of the problem itself. Or maybe we just don't feel comfortable talking about certain issues with them. Oftentimes we withdraw from our support systems and end up feeling more and more alone.
