My approach combines solution-focused and mindfulness -based techniques with humanistic and existentialist ways of thinking about therapy.
Every patient is unique, and so is every therapist. I have lived and practiced therapy in two very different cultures, which has given me insight into culturally specific and universal issues that underlie personal and interpersonal conflicts. I approach every client with acceptance and understanding, providing them with a compassionate space for exploring challenges and obstacles to happiness in themselves and their relationships. I enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds, seeking to understand each client's worldview and to help them to discover their own solutions to the difficulties they face, including anxiety, depression, and relationship conflicts.

I use a TEAM-CBT(Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) approach and integrate ACT and mindfulness based methods.
At times we may find we are struggling to cope with our problems or effectively manage feelings. Maybe you are feeling anxious, stressed, depressed or you could be finding yourself constantly worried, tired, having trouble sleeping or struggling to connect in your relationships. Perhaps it is just harder to get out of bed and do things, leaving you to feel unmotivated. You may be searching for solutions so you can start feeling better and doing the things you want.

I draw from multiple therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, attachment- and emotion-focused therapies, and mindfulness .
You need to talk, and I'm here to listen. But listening isn’t all that I’ll do. I collaborate with clients in a dynamic process of exploration and discovery. I will ask you thought-provoking questions, invite you to consider new perspectives, and engage you in a conversation that will promote insight and growth. I believe an authentic, trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation for healing. My style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I may challenge you to “try on” a different way of thinking or to break free from an entrenched pattern of behavior, but I will always lead with compassion and respect.

My approach is grounded in a relational psychodynamic perspective, and I utilize cognitive behavioral, family systems, humanistic, transpersonal, social justice, and mindfulness strategies to help my clients find ways to cope with their suffering.
I enjoy working with children and adults to help them find grounded ways of being with and moving through the struggles they face. I believe that strong relationships, with the self, the body, and with others, are central to a healthy lifestyle. Painful life experiences, transitions, trauma, anxiety, and depression are opportunities for growth, and helping people move through these challenges is incredibly rewarding. I love working with people of diverse sociocultural backgrounds and exploring how culture shapes experience. A deep understanding of development allows me to connect with people of all ages and help them move through difficult stages.

There is a crisis of meaning and purpose in our society and far too few communities of support to guide us through the difficulties of modern life. I work with clients using psychodynamic, interpersonal and mindfulness -based approaches to help people move from lives of loneliness and alienation to lives of connection and purpose. Creating a safe and nurturing relationship with my clients is of primary importance in my work.

I bring a compassionate, respectful and warm presence, informed by psychology graduate work, many years in practice with a diverse client base, a mindfulness practice, a strong base in healing trauma, an understanding of somatic/body-awareness work, and deep commitment to authenticity, caring and connection.
Depression, anxiety, loneliness, professional dissatisfaction, the aftermath of trauma - these are symptoms of something deeper calling out for help. Working together, we can learn what stands between you and emotional balance, happiness and strength. Cultivating these positive states is a wonderful way to live! I also work with couples to identify and remedy the root causes of conflict and dissatisfaction. This might include re-opening long-closed channels of communication; revitalizing emotional and sexual intimacy; and learning more deeply what each of you wants and needs from the other.

I have a background in mindfulness and evidence-based psychodynamic therapies, mentalization based therapy, somatic therapy for PTSD and developmental trauma, anger management, and the relationship between Buddhist practice and psychotherapy.
My practice focuses on issues of self-esteem, relational intimacy, shame, personality disturbances, anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. I work relationally and dynamically with a present-centered approach on issues as they are currently manifesting but with an eye to how they reflect deeper structures of clients' personalities and values. Therapy is not focused on fixing things, but on relaxing patterns of thinking, building resilience, and being able to be more creative and trusting of oneself and others.

I use evidence-based practices in mindfulness , CBT, and DBT that are grounded in science and shown to be effective.
Sometimes in life, depression and anxiety can feel like they are limiting your options and moving you away from your values. This can create feelings of misdirection and occasional coping in ways that are temporarily helpful but ultimately hurtful. Or it can lead you to unhappy relationships. You may struggle to stop these patterns, even though you know these are not the directions you want your life to go. Maybe you are trying to figure out who you are, trying on different personas and hoping that one will feel right.

Using mindfulness based, trauma and culturally informed lenses, you’ll move from where you are now, to where you want to be.
You made the first step! You have listened to that already wise part of you that knows now is a good time to reach out and be supported in a way that is tailored just for you. Are you finding yourself struggling for emotional wellbeing or balance, are you noticing that you are reacting in ways that aren’t working for you, in life, in relationships, even in the choices you are making? Are you finding yourself wrestling with anxiety, and feeling paralyzed in fear? Are you feeling as if there is no safe corner in your life where you can take in a breath and stop the daily push to produce?

Hi, thank you for taking a moment to view my page. We all face a world that is so fast paced, full of distraction and demands on our time and attention. I view therapy as a space to take rest from this rush and cultivate mindfulness and a sense of presence. Therapy is an opportunity to take a moment to hear one's self and identify where am I, where have I been, and most importantly where am I going? Therapy can be a radical act of self care when we learn to validate what we need to help ourselves move forward and how to let go of what no longer serves us.

Many clients choose to have sessions outdoors when weather permits, letting us use elements of ecotherapy and mindfulness to feel more connected to the natural world.
It takes courage to start working with a new therapist. The very fact that you’re considering it probably means you’re getting ready to make some significant changes in your life. My approach to therapy focuses on understanding and accepting you as you are right now, and creating a safe space where you can figure out where you want to go from here. We’ll work together as you get ready to make the sometimes tough (and rewarding) changes that will give you a better life. We will also deal with any stresses you're experiencing due to the coronavirus, including the isolation of sheltering in place and uncertainties about the future.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
