I specialize in working with couples and
women
struggling in relationships.
You just want to feel happy, to wake up and to actually feel excited about your day. You can't remember the last time you didn't feel stressed or rushed. You miss the old you, the you that used to smile, play with the kids, have fun with your partner. Imagine what it would feel like to slow down just a bit, to feel less stressed. Imagine what it would be like to feel calm, happy, and confident as you went through you day. Imagine what could change if you were able to start feeling good again.

I mindfully work with individuals from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and specialize in working with
women
in moments of change and challenge, at all stages of life, with focus on early adulthood, pregnancy, and parenting.
Through co-creating a supportive environment that offers you opportunities for self reflection and gentle challenge, I will work with you to recognize the ways that painful and/or traumatic experiences have shaped your sense of value and impact your ways of relating to yourself and others. I support and stand alongside all who are survivors of emotional, sexual and/or physical violence and strive to create space for increased self love and resilience. I look forward to meeting you and discovering how we can address patterns that no longer serve you as we build awareness and skills to support you in gaining the life you want to live.

As a Christian, middle-aged, African American
woman
, I bring my life experience of survival, trauma, and victory to the sessions with clients with compassion and honor for their own life experience while gently opening up space for self-reflection and healing.
I work with clients at my office in Berkeley near the Ashby Bart Station. I prefer to work with a client who will come to sessions even when it is challenging to do so and allow the therapy relationship to open up space for safe exploration of the realities of life, ways to cope with reality, and improve spiritual and mental strength. Therefore, my client would demonstrate commitment to the therapy relationship, whether it is for brief therapy or long-term work, by doing the work necessary to understand the self and make necessary life decisions in order to maximize the availability of life energy.

Do negative thoughts interfere with your self-esteem? relationships? moods? I can help. I specialize in helping
women
recognize & amplify inner resources to recover from trauma, anxiety, depression, and distress while attending to the important relationships in their lives. I inherently operate with a social justice lens, which means that therapy cannot be separated from familial, societal, and religious conditioning we experience as unique beings on this planet. As a mixed-heritage lesbian, I appreciate the ways internalized oppression can show up in our efforts to maintain mental and emotional health.

I have worked extensively with
women
with cancer, and people going through divorce, retirement, death of a partner, and most of life's various provocations which cause pain to the soul, all "traumas" in their own right.
I consider it a privilege to work with you to explore aspects of your life experience which have diminished your satisfaction with life or otherwise left you feeling lost or alone.
Challenges around loss, aging, illness, trauma or relationships can feel too frightening to tackle alone. As a seasoned and compassionate psychotherapist, I can help you bear and work with what may feel unbearable.
Together, we will create a protected space that fosters the trust, aliveness and self-expression that are essential to growth and success in love and work, where you can ultimately reclaim your life and joie-de-vivre.

As a long-time practitioner, my way of working has evolved from a more traditional dynamic approach to a deep interest in the bridge between mind/body spiritual traditions and contemporary psychology. I have much varied experience working with both men and
women
who struggle with the challenges of loneliness and living a conscious, fulfilling and spontaneous life. If you are feeling stressed, or if anxiety or depression have you wrestling with problems that never seem to resolve, perhaps it's time to turn for help to a compassionate and engaged therapist.

As a Multiracial, Black, Queer, Differently-Abled
Woman
, I hold a strong relational and cultural lens in my practice. I view behaviors and trauma through the foundation of who you are; in relationship to one's self and others. Identity and culture impact how we walk through the world, and how we heal through it. I also hold a strong lens for tapping into your inner child, healing childhood wounds and pains. What unmet childhood need is blocking your healing? Let's explore, and reclaim your sense of safety and joy together.

I have particular expertise working with people in inter-racial/cross-cultural/mixed race relationships and bi/poly/pan/omni
women
.
Profound change comes through understanding and knowing ourselves. You can express yourself more clearly and be more fully yourself. I help people tap into their ability to understand themselves and those close to them, and communicate with love and respect. Sometimes, creating better relationships requires engaging in processes of healing old wounds and traumas. My goal is to help you, and with couples, you and your partner and families become happier.

Working with individual adults and couples, I have 35 years experience supporting men and
women
who want to heal and grow. Stress, depression and anxiety often stem from relationship and workplace concerns. My couples counseling focuses on communication skills. To help heal childhood pain, I use varied modalities, including trauma work, EMDR , Adult Children (ACA) work, and parent/adult child conversations . Another specialty area is adults with addictions, family members with addicted loved ones, and codependency. I support the changes that come with each decade of life, along with retirement , aging and end-of-life issues.

I enjoy working with people who hold multicultural and marginalized identities, including
women
and BIPOC.
Navigating life's circumstances and challenges can take up a lot of space in our lives. Maybe you are looking for more spaciousness, more time for yourself, or an extra ear to listen to and fully "get" you. Or perhaps anxiety or depression has become a constant presence, and you desire a change and want more connection. Sharing our experiences with others provides an opportunity to feel understood. In a therapeutic relationship, we explore patterns and coping strategies to better form a picture of how we operate in the world. It can help us identify what is and isn't working towards getting your needs met more fully.

In addition to providing individual therapy and couples counseling, I run Anger Management groups for
women
.
There are usually two types of reasons people come into therapy. One is that find themselves making the same mistakes over and over again and they want to do something different, but are just not sure how. The other is that they have been carrying around a deep pain in their life that they want to resolve. Often these things are connected. This is why I work with you on two levels. I help you change the current unwanted behavior, while also helping you resolve issues from your past that may be effecting your reactions.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
