Developing a trusting relationship is the most important element in successful psychotherapy. We will create a unique relationship that encourages your expression of inner feelings and learning to know what is true for you. I appreciate depth work, and although weekly sessions are beneficial, up to three sessions per week deepens the process. I frequently work with the following issues: depression, anxiety , relationship problems, disabilities and chronic illness, self-esteem and LGBTQ issues.

I help people with the ups and downs of anxiety and depression, the hopes and fears of life transitions, the pain of grief and loss, the challenges of infertility and chronic illness, and the dissatisfaction that can come from distant or conflict-filled relationships.
Since 1989, I have been helping people uncover, explore, and work through barriers to authenticity and aliveness. Together, we bring into awareness the thoughts and feelings that can interfere with being more fully engaged with yourself or others. You may feel that you don't know yourself or can't be yourself; that decisions are difficult to make or impossible to follow through on; or that connections with others are empty or unsatisfying. Taking a closer look at what's getting in the way can make a difference.

I help teens and adults with life transitions, relationships, loneliness, heartbreak, self-esteem, anxiety , grief, and illness; and ultimately, with reaching a higher level of self-actualization.
With a background including a Stanford B.A./ UC Berkeley J.D., a previous life as an app founder, and a journey healing from autoimmune disease, I am a well-rounded, pragmatic therapist. I combine formal training in DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), psychodynamic therapy, somatic work, meditation, and yoga therapy to provide an approach to personal growth that is integrative and holistic. My diverse training enables me to provide the particular therapy that meets your needs. My work is informed by modern, evidence-based methods of psychotherapy as well as spiritual wisdom and practices from Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism.

My areas of focus include patients who have had conflictual relationships with their fathers or mothers, trauma, patients wanting to uncover the psychological roots of their addictions or compulsions, as well as patients suffering from anxiety and depression.
Move toward an authentic, more rewarding, life. Whether you're struggling with the same problems over and over, or just can't shake the feeling that something is missing from your life, my unique blend of supportive and exploratory psychotherapy can help. Uncover and change unconscious patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating that may have served you at one time in your life, but now block you from living with spontaneity, creativity, and zest.

We are in challenging times with many unknowns. Perhaps you're struggling with depression, anxiety , relationship issues, or loss. Or you're dealing with transition, chronic pain or trauma. There are many paths to emotional wellness, and psychotherapy is one. If you are open to engaging in this process, I am here to help you to develop a deeper relationship with yourself and others and a practice of personal inquiry. This can involve learning to notice and strengthen what works, let go of what doesn't, and find new behaviors and understandings. The results can include a greater sense of confidence, ease and effectiveness.

I specialize in both adolescent and adult psychotherapy and treat mental health issues such as anxiety , depression, ADHD, and complex trauma (PTSD).
My therapy style is down to earth, warm, inviting and active. I believe therapy is most effective when it is a collaborative process between the client and the therapist. We will work together to explore, reflect and identify areas in which insight and change are needed to achieve your goals. In sessions, I openly share my thoughts and my perspective as a guiding force but respect and believe that you are the leader in the room. I provide therapy as a transformative experience or a space to just let go, it can be whatever you need it to be, as long as the purpose of this space is for you to heal and find more joy in your life.

Usually, a person is compelled to seek-out a therapist because of desperation: Desperation to extricate her/himself from depression, anxiety and or behaviors that contribute to conflict, or loneliness. Sometimes a person wants to be more successful in relationships or at work, A couple seeks-out a therapist because their frequent bickering has led to frustration, isolation and loneliness, and they don't know how get out of it. You may feel that your partner no longer values you. You need to be heard, valued and supported-to regain the closeness and understanding you once had.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
