You’re a thoughtful friend, partner, or parent who’s tired of the same arguments, distance, or anxiety. You want fewer blowups, better communication, and a plan you can follow at home. I help individuals and couples untangle unhelpful patterns, reduce stress and depression, and rebuild trust. Drawing on 25+ years of practice, we’ll clarify goals, learn concrete skills, and create time-limited action steps. Whether it’s couples therapy, relationship counseling, or support through a life transition, we’ll move from confusion to clarity with steady, practical guidance.

I am a family systems psychotherapist working with individuals and families confronting complex mental health, behavioral, substance abuse and relational challenges that often break families apart.
Starting well in therapy means building trust and creating a path towards meeting your goals. For individuals we begin by getting clear on your goals and what currently stands in your way. With families we start by meeting together and getting to know one another. The focus is on supporting the whole family, not just the person who is most troubled.

I’m a Columbia-trained clinical psychologist specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, self-esteem, and complex relationship dynamics.
Complex trauma often surfaces in relationships—conflict, withdrawal, over-control, perfectionism, or insecure attachment. Many adults carry significant internal strain, whether or not it is visible to others. We’ll examine the origins of these patterns and recalibrate them so you can relate with steadiness, self-trust, and secure, authentic connection.

People seek therapy at important junctures in their lives - the loss of a loved one, major career shifts, or unexpected life events. Others do so for less specific reasons, including a vague sense of unease or continual frustration and disappointment in life. Whatever the reason, the act of seeking help is a profound one. It typically means that we recognize we are at the limits of our own abilities to cope on our own. It also is a sign of very good instincts. My recommendation to anyone who has reached this point is to trust those instincts and seek a therapist that feels suitable, curious, supportive and kind.

You might be holding it together on the outside while struggling internally, turning to alcohol or substances to cope, feeling stuck in unprocessed grief or trauma, wrestling with self-doubt, anger, or anxiety.
Using evidence-based practices and therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches, I help folks build practical skills, reconnect with their strengths and values, and experience greater emotional stability and authenticity.

You’re going through the motions—day after day—without joy, without a sense of purpose. You feel disconnected from your creativity, from yourself, and from meaningful relationships. You are highly sensitive and emotionally aware. This is your superpower. And yet, you’ve been mistreated in jobs and relationships. You sacrifice your needs for others and lack self-confidence. As a child, space wasn't made for your feelings. You learned to make yourself small to stay safe. You have felt driven to overwork or prove yourself in order to feel worthy. You’re hard on yourself. Now your nervous system is overwhelmed and you feel paralyzed.

Are you too stressed to even be in touch with yourself? Too worried and tense, having a hard time to relax? Are you avoiding people and their expectations (and judgments) because you're tired and feel you don't have much to give at the moment? Stress feels like having a super sensitive burglar alarm ringing loudly throughout the mind and body. It confuses our thoughts. We are unable to see facts or future clearly. Our creativity is blocked or showing up as destructive energy. The body is in fight (frustration and anger) or flight (anxiety and overload) or worse - feeling frozen (numb and depressed).

Let me provide you and your family with the support & the tools needed to heal and get your lives back on track. These are stressful times; remember you don't need to do this alone, support is here for you & your family.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
