Feeling overwhelmed? Corporate culture and your perfectionist inner critic can wear you down. As a former tech worker turned therapist,I get it. Everyone sees you as super successful, but you feel like you're barely keeping up, constantly falling short of your own high standards. The endless to-do list keeps you up at night, leaving you exhausted by your own anxious thoughts. Yet you fear these traits are why you've been successful. It feels like you must choose between success and self-compassion.

Do you struggle with feeling nervous or down much of the time? Are you having trouble falling or remaining asleep? These are signs of anxiety and depression, and they are very treatable. However, when left untreated, both can be debilitating and overwhelming. Anxiety and depression can manifest in many ways, affecting the kinds of decisions you make, which in turn affects the quality of your life.

In order to be deeply connected you must stand on your own two feet. You can’t outsource your self worth. Passion fades when you play it safe. Your ability to tell the truth and hold your ground determines the depth of your connection. Anxiety spreads, but you don’t have to catch it. Be open to everything and cling to nothing.

At times, life presents us with challenges that are too difficult to face alone. While some people turn to family and friends for support, others may find themselves without anyone. The fear of judgment and understanding can prevent many from obtaining the support they need. My passion for therapy lies in the opportunity to work with a diverse range of individuals and learn about their unique experiences. Each person's story is different, and being able to support them through their journey is incredibly rewarding.

New virtual opening Jan 2026: Wednesday AM. I use EMDR to help creative people manage anxiety and heal from trauma. We can begin by addressing the tension, the worry, the sadness, the fear-based thinking, and the repeated patterns. You can learn tools to calm the body and quiet the mind. Then we can address the hurtful memories from the past. If you’re ready to go deep to uncover and heal what’s been weighing you down or holding you back, let’s talk. I’ll commit to supporting your most authentic and empowered self.

My name is Ashley Singerman, and I’m a private practice therapist who works with people new to therapy, adults with childhood trauma, mothers, and adolescents. If you come from a background where you experienced neglect, trauma, or abuse, I hold the space where you feel supported and handheld in your experience while we move at your own pace. It might be hard for you to take the first step because you aren’t sure or are afraid to make a choice. I love ushering people into the work because I know it can be anxiety provoking. In my approach, I want you to have the tools to make your own choices, and to feel safe in the process.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
