I work with children, adolescents and adults, and specialize in anxiety, emotional trauma, and depression, using Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing and Reality Therapy to help my clients make progress and start feeling better.
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Reality Therapy, as these modalities help me, and the client build a shared understanding of their reality and allow us to work together to chart a path forward.

You worry about what others think; about you, about your child.
I want you to know that even though it might be hard right now that you and your child will be okay. I can’t claim to help make your life perfect, things might always be hard. This world was not built for your child, but I can help you to feel more confident in the decisions you are making for your child, honoring your child’s needs and your family's values.

Depression and anxiety are the manifestation of unmet needs in the past asking to be seen in your present
When I first became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist 20 years ago, our understanding of how past traumas and attachment wounds affected us in the present, and how to effectively treat trauma and attachment wounds was very minimal. Since that time, extensive research, studies, theories and practices have broadened our knowledge of trauma's impact on the mind and body and expanded the variety of tools and resources available to support therapists. I can honestly say I have never loved my work as a trauma/attachment-focused therapist more than I do right now.

My counseling sessions online and in person aim to help couples and individuals (12 years and up) for a variety of issues, such as emotional eating, depression, anxiety, trauma, couple's conflict, codependency, self-esteem, life transitions, behavioral problems and more.
Being a caregiver myself in the past, I’m deeply aware of caregivers' struggles, and I'm passionate about supporting them. Also, I very much enjoy helping couples find deeper connection with each other. I love supporting women in their growth towards personal power, as well as men in building inner integrity and strength.

Maybe you're waking at 3:00 AM with a quiet, persistent anxiety.
What you're experiencing isn't weakness, it's a story that's become fragmented. In my work, I don't try to fix you. Instead, I act as a co-traveler, using a process called Life Telling Processing to gently gather the broken pieces of your narrative and arrange them into something whole, a mosaic that is honest, integrated, and deeply yours.

My work focuses primarily on adults who are experiencing anxiety and depression, often in the context of stressful life problems.
What sets my practice apart is a focus on skills building. I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral therapy and mindfulness to help people identify tools of the most benefit to them. These skills or tools can be used in the first session and then used for a lifetime.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
