I have worked with children and adolescents in the foster care system who were severely emotionally disturbed with duel diagnosis, and their families, and also children placed in group homes.
I acknowledge the complexity of people as physical, social, psychological, and spiritual persons. All individuals and families experience crisis to some degree. It is my desire to support parents, guardians, non-professional care-givers, and families with spiritual truth and psycho-social insights helping them to improve their relationships and effectiveness in their roles and families. This is supported by helping to improve relationships, understand what one really wants, to understand choices and direction, and empowering them to take action. I believe that improvement is most possible when the whole system is involved.

Your world may feel on fire right now. There's so much happening and maybe none of it is in your control. It makes sense to be struggling, feeling hopeless, like there's no one who "gets it." You don't have to go through this stress alone. In therapy, I strive to create a validating, safe space where we can problem solve, process through the overwhelm, and work on how to find some joy in survival.

Life can be unpredictable, full of moments of great joy, love, and success but can also come with disappointment, sadness and loss. Having support throughout the highs and the lows can help in the healing and make us stronger people. My goal in the session is to highlight strengths, explore the deeper cause of our emotions and actions, and to hold people accountable in a way that challenges them while lifting them up.

Teenagers navigating life transitions.
If you are looking for support for yourself, a child, relationships, or your family, let's talk. Life is unpredictable. When an individual experiences life events that change their functioning in their world, talking with a trained unbiased individual helps. Each of us has it within us to change. I welcome the opportunity to support individuals on their personal journey to transform their lives.

There are times in our lives where life brings certain challenges. Troubled relationships, emotional difficulties, and mental health challenges make life more exhausting than it needs to be. If you feel that your life is chaotic, beyond your control, and that you're all alone, then seeking counseling may be the right path for you.

My ideal client is motivated and looking for guidance on how to achieve their goals. I greatly appreciate clients who take what is offered to them, and follow through on that information outside of sessions. I work with persons from all walks of life, and can strongly relate to EMS and Health Care Workers, & find a great connection with that population due to my long history in this field. My work with Military and Veterans is a natural offshoot of that specialty, due to our many military family members. I welcome clients from all areas, lifestyles, and professions.

Hello, this is Shannon, I’m passionate about mental health and helping others to not just survive, but thrive. Although I’ve been a licensed therapist for over 13 years, life experiences as a mom to 3 boys, a military spouse and a military Veteran myself, have helped evolve and shape me into the therapist that I am today. Throughout the therapeutic process, I will interweave and focus on key lifestyle factors that may be contributing to a clients current emotional state, such as diet/nutrition, movement, sleep, and spirituality.

You’re tired of walking on eggshells. Tired of the miscommunication, the forgotten promises, the late-night overthinking, and the constant question: “Is it always going to be this hard?” "What if it’s not just miscommunication, what if it’s undiagnosed ADHD?" Maybe you’re the one with ADHD, always trying to do better, only to feel like you’re letting your partner down. Or maybe you're married to someone with ADHD, and you feel more like a parent than a partner, overwhelmed, lonely, and secretly resentful. This isn’t the relationship you imagined. But that doesn’t mean it’s beyond repair.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
